Who knows about MK5 Rabbits?

So the ABS and Traction Control light is on in my gf's Rabbit. I'm not sure what year it is, exactly. With winter coming on she'd like to have them working. I haven't had a real look at it yet myself. She had it to the dealership a while back and got an estimate but can't find it.

From everything I've read online I'm going to start by looking for chafed or broken wheel speed sensors. I'm hoping I get off lucky and it's the easy/cheap repair.

I've also heard of ABS modules (which I don't think would explain the TC light) and for some reason a bad MAF setting those codes as well.

Also it gets shit gas milage, like 450km per tank, which I think is low for a newer car, it's the 2.5l 5cyl, not sure if that's normal for those things or not.

The MAF will throw a trac control light. Try and find a friend with a mk5 jetta/rabbit and trade maf's.

The story I'm getting is that ABS and TC light came on at same time. They're both on solid all the time. I'm really hoping for a speed sensor with a broken wire.

the mk5 vw isnt' known as really getting "econo car" fuel economy due it it's 2.5 5 cyl engine. It's primitive, yet reliable and stout, much like an m20. Which is the reason for it's impressive hp and tq numbers for a car in it's segment.

That's what I was thinking, but I guess I just assume a new car is going to be better in every way haha. It did feel like it had more power than I was expecting.

Haha no mk5. I don't even like VW except the weird old shit. We haven't really been dating all that long, but I'm going to try to steer her toward something more like anything but another newer VW.

OK, got a copy of her estimate, apparently it needs a rear wheel bearing but they are bolt on/bolt off hubs and a wheel speed sensor. They also said she needed front rotors and pads but they look fine to me.

Yeah, I like the weird old shit too. I have MK2 golf. Fun little car. Everything after that though.... reliability just went into the shitter.

Word, I have an '86 Jetta. It's slow as can be, but fucking stupid reliable. Just refreshed the engine last month, should be good for another 25 years/500k miles (whichever comes first).
