                For private sellers, they probably don't know what it's actually worth and don't want to ask under market value, losing money, so they'd rather you make an offer giving them an idea of what it might be worth.

                My pet peeve is when they want offers but don't really give you anything to base your offer on. No pics, no info, etc.

                  I always thought selling "etiquette" stated that if I want money for an item, I should tell you how much I want to get out of it, if I leave it blank or say "make an offer" does that not invalidate it as a "sale" and make it a "bid"
