I had a drive on an old Windows desktop. After an install of XP (It is an old computer) the drive would start clicking and the entire OS would freeze. Turned out it was bad sectors that just fucked with the system being able to read it. Since the computer was so old and only used for browsing, loaded Debian onto it and haven't had a problem since (about 3 years).

Okay, but the OP tried the drive on multiple computers. If its not mounting long enough for him to do anything with the drive then what is he suppose to do?
Just saying, download a small Linux distro and try it. Its free, quick and easy, and might just save his data before calling it quits. This is all from personal experience.
