Anybody know of any reputable PCM tuners for OBD2 Jeeps? Figured some of you guys are Jeep people and might know where to look. Mom has a 2000 Cherokee Sport with a 4.0, and it keeps throwing Evap Small Leak codes. According to the internet, it could be anything from a pinhole, to a bunch of really expensive evap BS. I've checked the usual stuff, and mom said the CEL has come on off & on with the same code for the past 2 years or so. Where she just bought a house at, she will need to be able to pass emissions with it when she converts her NY drivers license to a GA license, then tags the Jeep here, and I'd just assume shut it off in the PCM and not have to worry about it again.
Jeep PCM tuning??

Why not pay a shop with a fog machine an hour labor to properly diagnose it, then fix it yourself?
Even if HPTuners worked on Jeeps, it would cost you $100 in credits. Cheaper to just have it diagnosed and fixed correctly.
Plus it is a federal crime to disable emissions related items on a street driven vehicle. Could possibly bite you in the ass down the road.No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that. -

Dude - I have a '95 Volvo 960 with a GM 5.3l swap - and NO emissions components, all turned off in the PCM. 95% of the people here with swaps have the emissions equipment either turned off in the PCM/DME or removed altogether (cats, rear O2's, air pumps, etc.).
As stated, the repair could be anything from a pinhole leak in oen fo the EVAP hoses, to a several hundred dollar EVAP pump thing. So no, there's a good chance it's NOT a cheap fix. I just don't want to deal with what is an extremely common, apparently re-occuring issue. A simple PCM flash will delete it, and I can forget about it until we crush the POS in a couple years.Comment

You're talking about your MOM's car.... It's one thing to disable codes on your personal ride, but on your mom's vehicle, it should be done right.
Evap pump thing? The evaporative system is pretty simple in reality. You have a stepper motor that regulates vacuum to the tank, a charcoal canister to filter fumes, and a vent valve to keep the fuel tank from going into a vacuum.
A small leak can be detected easily with a fog machine pumping fog into the system. Then you locate the leak, and bam.
Evap purge valve, vent valve, cracked canister, or gas cap. I'd put money on it being one of those. It is very easy to find out exactly where the leak is.... But then again I have no idea what I'm talking about, right? No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

Apparently not, because you're missing the $250+ EVAP Leak Detection Pump as well. Gas cap has been replaced (a couple times). Tuning may or may not be all that expensive. A pro will have an unlimited license for whatever tuning software they sue (if their software even works on a license system). I pay $85 for my GM PCM tunes. Hence why I'm asking this question. Since your input hasn't contributed to finding that answer - why are you responding??Comment

Sorry, I just don't understand why kids are so hell bent on rigging up their parent's cars.
You'd rather spend the money to hide something rather than find out what is actually wrong.

Because I'd rather not spend anymore money on this POS and hope I can convince her next year to buy a GOOD car (Subaru Forrester, hopefully) and I can crush this rotted out POS. It only has 125k on it and the rocker panels are GONE. Blown LF shock, I just replaced a RR wheel cylinder that blew out. It's cracked a head, wheel bearing failures....It's been a huge pile, and I can't wait to be rid of it.
And I'm 30. Not a kid. Has nothing to do with 'wanting to rig parents vehicle' and everything to do with the fac tthat ti's NOT worth fixing an issue thats really not an issue. The vehicle will run forever without the EVAP system, has no bearing on longevity or anything else. For christs fucking sake, can we get back to the topic now??Comment

You've obviously decided what you're going to do, why not just do it instead of looking for validation of your choice online? For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.

She probably isn't tightening the gas cap all the way if it's coming and going. Seen many of a woman-owned vehicle asking to fix that light. Have yet to have one come back after installing a new cap and telling them to close it until it clicks 3 times.Comment

Who's looking for validation? Re-read the OP.

Gas cap has been replaced - twice. I've removed it and put it back on, cleared the code, and started and driven it, to have the code come back in 5-10 miles. Do a Google search and see how ridiculously common an issue this is.
Why do I feel like I'm surrounded by stupid? I asked a question here because I know lots of BMW people also have Jeeps. I'm not a member of any Jeep forums, so I figured I'd start where I'm already a member first, and see if anybody has any personal experiences with any Jeep tuners. This isn't rocket science, was I not clear in the OP??Comment

Thats also false. The system only looks for x number of readiness monitors. If the readiness monitors are turned off (aka, not even there) then it won't fail. You're also allowed to have up to 2 monitors not ready last time I checked. I have a handful of them turned off in both my GM PCM's, and I guarantee it'll pass.
And it's frustrating having post after post of people acting like they know something (which none seem to so far, yourself included) yet not answering my question.Comment
