Newer Focus hatch. Comfy, reliable and surprisingly fun to drive.

I was going to suggest Subaru myself, but the 08+ requirement puts them out of the price range (at least here in CA).

Previous model Impreza 2.5RS/Outback Sport would be under budget and still reliable, though.

I mean FSI since the TSI are still a bit too pricey. The only "problem" is the cam follower issue, just change it out every couple of years. It's like $50 and takes 30 minutes.

If she is really into the Mini or Mazda, I'd nudge her in that direction. If she doesn't really care, then get her a Toyota, but if you are ever going to have to drive it, get a Honda.

Ford Focus Hatchback.. I've owned one for a couple months now, 30-40 MPGs, pretty fun to drive.

Why do people think they need a FWD? FWD is made for one reason, cheaper manufacturing. In no way does anybody need a FWD.

An S2k, an RX8 and a GTO can all be had in that price range and only barely out of your year requirements.

It's for his GF. I don't think shes interested in any of those cars.

I fail to see your point.

I like my 2011 Kia optima, along with most other people that have been in/around it. Leased when almost 3 years ago, the buyout in a couple months is $11,200. They Will be poping up now that 3 year leases are coming to an end. have 40k on it with no issues to date. Plenty of room and gets 27mpg around town/35 on the highway.
