Originally posted by arsevaderThat site is awsome. So many memorable decks. I always wanted a Santa Cruz Cory O'Brien because at the time I loved the graphics. Had no money though.
there were so many choices and so little chump change in our pockets.
remember always wanting some of those supafly Tracker Yello Mag truks with their fancy protectors, but could only sprint for multi purpose 169 Indi's with the ugly grey pcv like things, powell nose and tail guards and rails.
hardly ever so a Dog Town back east, mostly SC, Sims, and Kriptos.
there's a very retro shop i go to in Santa Monica, CA, they have a Pig as well as a ton of other vintage boards.
also found a concrete bolw in Oxnard, CA. about 20 x 8 ft deep.
usually hit it during school hours so no wippersnapers can laugh at me and my old oversided decks ;)Comment

think the biggest leap in technology was the jump to sealed bearings.
sure remember the old Chicagos and Wheel Barrel wheels spitting BB's as i rolled around, what a pain in the ars was it to swap wheels, are they alll in ?
did i drop any ? hahahah.
we built a 20 wide x 12 or so tall 1/2 pipe inside an abandon railroad track building, LIRR trains parked on near by yard, free buzz refills anyone ?
perfect innercity getaway location., double hits of mesk made you losse 3 pounds by morning and comedown with sunrise., houndres of feet of blanc walls to do burners on while lit and warmed by burning wood in garbage cans.
straight out of Warrios, come out to plaaayyieeehhh !!!
one of the wildes parks was a Plexiglass one in Staten island, you could see the metal skeleton of the forms, a real trip, there was this 15 or so exposed bolw witha 90 degree drop, man. 15 or so wide half pipe with dual entrances, an actual wave or as we would call it Camels hump that ran around the park, sort of extended 60 ft long 1/4 pipe. have pics of it somewhere.Last edited by fporro; 05-01-2006, 12:15 PM.Comment

urethane, single largest innovation in skateboarding, sealed bearings, then lighter less-plied boards with noses. I would say trucks, but it funny how tracker and gullwing "tried" to come with innovations, and Indys are still pretty much the same. Minus some steel and axel slip of course. I would also venture to say shoes are a huuuuuuuuge innovation as well. Check out Supra and Vox shoes..... I ride/rock nothing but Podium, but that has to do with my background. Post some pics of your rigs!

Rich

I haven't skated in a couple years now. I still have a deck, it's a creature I believe, but I think that ship has sailed. I still surf, snowboard, and mtn bike though.Comment

Had an original "Alva" you know the one with the rainbow lettering. Saved up for months to buy it at Val Surf in "the valley". Was my pride and joy till one day I speedballed down Laurel Canyon from the top near Mullholland Drive.
Tried to maintain the speed, but could not handle the speed wobbles. Was passing traffic on the way down cut across the street in front of oncoming traffic and had to launch off the front and dive for the gutter to avoid being killed. Thought my skate was bad as it was crushed and flung by the traffic it ran into until I got up and looked at undersides of my forearms where I landed and saw some nice rare "beef jerky".
Had some really great stories to tell , but still miss that board to this day. I see em go on Ebay now for hundreds and hundreds.Comment
