OP is clearly not the authority figure of the household, or else the kid would know who's boss

time to lay down the beats on that kids behind! sure he'll cry hard, but it'll be the best damn sleep either of you've ever had

He'd start back up again and I'd stretch it to 15. Thankfully he figured it out on the third night.
        My experience exactly.

The battle of wills goes on for years to come this is just the first phase. Routine and training them what to expect next was the key for us.

Yeah, fear and physical abuse are a great way to raise a well adjusted individual. Explains your skewed view on life, I feel bad for you... I really do. God bless.

Op, we are in the same boat right now with our 14mo son. It was even worse when we weren't being as consistent on naps. We now shoot for bed before 7, wake hopefully not before 6, nap at 9, nap at 1, maybe an afternoon nap if the earlier ones weren't as good. But he wakes during the night four maybe 5 times and it's killing us. Going to try to night ween as well, but getting major pushback from the wife on letting him cry it out.
Your not alone, it's like I gotta be a ninja just to get myself in bed in my own room which is across the hall from his, let alone do anything else around the house after he is in bed for the "night"

An infant sized shot of Jack Daniels works wonders.

Thanks man. Our son dropped his second nap at 12mo and appears to be trying to drop his only nap at a mere 19 months, both of which are WAY too early. He'll even hang in there for 30 minute car drives while he's obviously dead tired, just a blank stare with beet red eyes. It's like he saw Nightmare on Elm Street or something... Luckily when he's out, he's a pretty heavy sleeper, we don't have to worry too much about noise however when a normal toddler/adult would wake up in the middle of the night to roll over or something, he starts crying and won't go back down without a lot of help (help = boob in mouth + rocking chair).

We're going to check out the Sleep Lady's book that was recommended earlier and see if that method helps. It's at our local library, sweet!

Took about 2-3 weeks from can't set him down to sleep to going down no issues. Her method is basically put himin the crib and sit next to the crib.. dont touch him or interact other then to reassure. . Warning first few times there will be crying but you aren't leaving him by himself to cry it out.. as he gets comfortable with you next to the crib, move the chair farther away.. and at each location when he is comfortable keep moving the chair until you are outside the door.. anyways.. this is just a general over view of it.. I would definitely recommend the book a lot of helpful tips etc.. good luck
This is exactly what we did. Never knew about the book though, or I would have done it sooner.

My son never napped, and I mean never. Now, he goes to bed when you tell him, talks to himself or sings, and when he finally crashes, a nuclear event won't wake him.

It will get better, but having a kid has been the most difficult thing I have done in my life.

                    Glw you kid.

It's good to know it's just not only us... a co worker has a son very close in age and has no sleep issues, was sleeping through the night right away

We might have to check that book out as well... so far for references we have found "the baby sleep site" webpage to be useful with it's downloadable books. The little guy was actually down to only one nap a day before 12 months and was giving up on that, turns out the needs for naps and the effects of quantities of naps is an inverse relationship. More naps and sleep equal longer and better naps and earlier bedtime equals later till wakes up... ...tonight it's game on, just me and him for an hour each time he wakes before his mommy gets to give him her boob ...lol, May the fight begin (this week is going to suck, well, not for him in the way he wants)
