That's tough news, I wish you and your pal well and hope he does not suffer, I feel for you.
my best friend has cancer

Went through the same thing not too long ago. Early last year my best buddy Kona was diagnosed with cancer. There were some signs before hand something was wrong and the cancer had also metastasized. Had to put him down to ease his pain. He was Sheltie/Border Collie mix that was rescued. Sweetest damn dog you ever seen. Still miss him a lot.
Spend as much time with him that you can, make his life the best it can be while he's still around. In the end you'll be alright but it's hard I know.
Here's a picture of him after a shave:

I going to wait and see based on the results of the biopsies tomorrow.
If it is carcinoma, there is nothing I can do, if it is lymphoma, they can do chemo. I don't want to degrade his quality of life. He is not in pain now and is doing much better since I have switched him to Kenwa and boiled chicken (rice turns into glucose and can feed the tumors).
I will make my decisions on what course I will take based on the news tomorrow.
Thank you for all the kind words. This is incredibly hard for me. Harder then being on fire and being burned, harder then the surgeries, harder then having skin cancer all rolled into one.
I will update this tomorrow when I get the results.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

Sorry to hear that man, never had a dog because my dad didn't want this same thing to happen to me while I was a kid, in the moment I hated it but I'm glad he did. One of my good friends had a boxer named biggie smalls, and when he died it was horrible. I feel for you..Comment

Really sorry to hear this. Having grown up with dogs and seeing them all go it's always hard.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I am going to have to have him put down on Monday. Things have slid down hill since I posted this and he is much worse. I am going to male the best of the last weekend I have with him. Making paw prints today and just trying to keep him comfortable and painless.
Monday will be worse than anything I have had to do in my life. I am at peace with what I have to do and know it is the best thing I can do for him, it still does not make it any easier, but it is for the best.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

Shit. I have been fearing seeing this thread getting bumped up, every post has had me concerned. Sad to say above is the one I was hoping not to see.
As a fellow dog owner/lover I know nothing I can say can really bridge the gap, our connections with our pets are very deep, like the one being that truly knows the real you. So, they are unique connections.
The last time I was where you are now, I was reminded that we have to remember that their lives are shorter than ours, and because of that it's hard for us to accept their passing, but they have lived their full life, and as long as we, their owners/friends give them the best life we possibly can, their lives are fulfilled, and they experienced being truly loved.
And, that's about the best thing any of us could possibly ask for.Comment

I can't really say anything that others have already said, but I'm truly sorry to hear this Greg. I was hoping the tone would change as well.
Just know that as much as a part of your life he is, if he could talk he would say how thankful he is that you're doing what is best for him.Comment

Sorry to hear Greg, I couldn't imagine what would happen if this happened to my pits. Losing your dog is the one of the worst things to ever feel and deal with. They are for sure man's best friend.
While you were down, he was by your side. Now you're by his side, which is what he would want.
Edit: we had to put our sheltie down on my birthday a year ago due to heart failure and fluid in her lungs. Even though it was the most gut twisting feeling, I knew it was for the better. It's not worth making them suffer just so you don't have to let go of them. They are always there with you, they never leave. Keep your head up man.
