      This. I Haven't had cable/satellite in over 5 years.

Well, it's been snowing since yesterday and guess what I have had no satellite since yesterday. Don't worry though, I am still paying not to have satellite...

For over the air HD channels, build one of these antennas:

I made one using oak and solid copper wire. It hangs on the wall next to the TV. Works great and looks good.

Because I have a 1.5 years left and don't want to pay a cancellation fee.

                    lol

I have been IP based for the past 2 years. My stay at home wife decided to try ATT uverse/cable for a few months and we quickly decided that it wasn't worth paying $100 a month for cable.

We pay less than $20 a month for HULU, Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, our Smart-TV apps and Crackle.
Between them you can find whatever you'd like to watch. The best part about it is you can share it. my parents, in laws, siblings all use the same account.

Most major networks have an App in the samsung smart hub. our formula as follows:
Buy an HD 3D Smart-TV -$900 (if you have one, great!)
Download major network apps onto tv -Free! (nbc, cbs, fox etc)
                    Pay for subscription service $8-25
Download Vuze on your networked PC and stream all your downloads to your tv -FREE

all together the first year we only saved maybe $200 at most. The second year, we've saved $1300 and that savings continues for as long as our tv works. I'll never pay for cable/sat ever again.

*EDIT Those damn cable/sat boxes are very VERY power hungry. Our light bill for 4 boxes and battery backup shot up $60.

I'm a cable installer, so I'm biased. But if I had to choose between the two, it would be DirecTV.

There are credible rumors going around at BendBroadband that the bandwidth cap is going to be drastically increased pretty soon.

                        Internet + android tablet + Chromecast + non-smart tv + Netflix/Hulu/whatever

that's what I want with over the air HD for football.
