If your trying to run 1080p its tough, but 720p runs around 40-50fps. If your running texture packs most likely wont be able to handle it. I mostly built this system for light gaming. If I ever get into newer titles I'll invest in a gpu, but for my needs it works perfect. If your on a budget getting an apu and adding a gpu later down the road makes perfect sense. When you disable the onboard graphics the cpu is still a strong contender & typically runs cooler.

This will give you an idea on what it can handle. From my experience the 5800k really needs to OC to perform. At stock clock it is pretty weak. An apu with a Hyper 212+ cooler is still a good budget setup.

Idles around 3c & I can game all day without my pc acting as a space heater. This is with the h80 on quiet setting. Those fans can get really loud.

I've even pushed it to 4.6ghz without any issues, so I'm amazed that one of your mosfets popped. As you really wasn't pushing the voltage.

How the fuck do you manage to tuck those wires so cleanly? My rig is goddamn messy! BTW is that a Fractal Design case? If so, I may have the same exact one!

Haven't done any OC'ing in a while so I can't really say much about this. I am running an i5 3570k on a asus p8z77-v lk mobo. I OC'd it sometime ago and I think i went to 4.1ghz maxing out at around 80c on a stock heatsink and fan.

This is my gaming rig, and many games are relying on CPU power more and more.
I love the marketing department in the PC gaming world for video cards. It's brilliant. They just make things up...more or less, and the whole PC gaming world follows along. They (the pc gamers) even learn all the slang "oh this has cuda cores!" and...this is blah, blah, blah. It's amazing marketing.

(next you'll tell me I'm wrong, and I'll ask you tell me what the fuck a cuda core is....exactly...in detail.)

Not really, as I never mentioned any marketing gimmicks. My higher fps was in reference to the over clocking.

Frames per second is not a marketing gimmick, unless you are running higher than your monitors refresh rate.

What the fuck are you going on about anyway?

                          Side note:

My current computer that I use as an HTPC and light gaming.....well when it gets going the fans are LOUD. Like turn the volume up a little more, LOUD.

I'm considering building a new beast of a machine that will carry me for another 4-5 years like the current one has.

Will liquid cooling the CPU and GPU make a noticeable difference in noise? My thought being the liquid cooling is more effective, so a fan won't have to move as much air/make as much noise? I'm not as concerned with OC'ing the shit out of it as I am making it as quiet as possible.

I am running the corsair sealed h100i and when my mobo fried there I was impressed at how quiet the whole thing was. Only ever hit 44*C to boot, using prime95 blend test for the load testing.

I've rewired this rig 3 times by now. Ugly wiring just bugs me. Got some other ideas so I'll probably rearrange some things. As for the case its a source 210 with a side panel window. Was like 25$ and pretty nice for a budget case
