Best Car to drive for UberX?

My friend wants to start driving for Uber, and wants to buy or lease a car for just this purpose. Basically, a Taxi.

Keep in mind that he doesn't really care about cars at all. To him it's just a tool and a job, so things like "fun to drive" hold absolutely no meaning for this kid. Which is sad.

For it to qualify for Uber, it must be a 4 door car, and newer than 2000. Keep in mind that as a driver you get rated by your passengers, so driving something super cheap might hurt his rating. The more people you can seat the better.

Obviously, fuel costs are a huge concern as well.

Budget around $25k

I immediately suggested a Toyota Camry or Corolla due to the cheap insurance, bullit-proofness, and inexpensive maintenance. What else is out there? What's the best newish-car Taxi?

I have a friend who does this using an outback xt. It's unstoppable in any weather, is comfortable, and has lots of cargo room.

I hope he's done his research on everything from his area, insurance, Uber as a company itself, and expected earnings, his cost of business, and everything else like that. From surge pricing, to number of fares over the past 6 months in his area, time of fares, etc etc.

I'd suggest the most fuel efficient vehicle possible with the best warranty/maintenance program. A larger vehicle will help with people and their comfort but may not help with the costs.
