sorry to hear your f4i blew up. Pretty much the exact same thing happened in our CRF450 last year. Made it through everything and then the piston went sideways in the last lap of endurance. We did testing and found that in cornering we are loosing oil pressure. When these motors are in bikes, the motor turns with the bike in corners, but not so much in the fsae cars. Hope you still did well! Put some pics up soon!Comment

We used to have troubles with oil starvation, too. We ended up making a swiveling oil pickup that moves around in the pan and works with baffles to help prevent oil loss. In the past when we'd get oil starvation, we'd always lose cylinder one because the oil channels route there first. this time it was cylinder 3 that kicked the bucket, so we'll have to see what the problem was.sorry to hear your f4i blew up. The power to weight is just not there... That's the biggest reason why I want to stick to the sport bike motors. A turbo 1L can produce upwards of 350bhp and that is more than enough for a car the will weight no more than 700lbs. I want to start small and reasonable, then work the power into the mix.

This is actually a serious concern of mine, along with the oil starvation issues some of the FASE teams experience... I'm also starting to realize that a gas tank w/ f1 style baffles is more than likely going to be required. You guys ever experience fuel starvation, or unstable handling at full, empty, or anywhere in between? Our car threw a rod on lap 8 of endurance, leaving a couple f4i engine block chunks on the back straight of MIS! It was doing fantastic up to that point, though! We passed nearly every other car in the heat and the motor sounded great, then it seemes like our driver lost a bit of power then half a lap later, boom! Luckily he was okay and the car aside from the engine was okay.Comment

Not really, we just have a small sump with baffling at the bottom that takes care of any fuel starvation issues. The tank is small enough that it being full or empty doesn't do very much to the handling. The power to weight is just not there... Here's an imgur album of some of my pics form the weekend. I got pictures of mostly aero kits since that's what I'm mostly responsible for designing and fabbing, but I got some other things in there, too.
There's plenty of annotations, but if there are any questions, feel free to ask.'91 325i
