Hard to answer because I actually just limit myself.
Out of each payroll check deposited into my account, I leave in the same amount all the time that I know I'll need for 2 weeks, and spread it throughout those 14 days till next payday - I transfer the difference into savings.
So my checking account never has much in it because I'm still in school, eat at home, and don't have too many responsibilities or bills yet.
Every bill I have is already auto-deducted from said checking account and I need 1 fill-up of gas every 2 weeks for the driving I do. All this is factored into what I keep in the account or transfer over! That and I always have like $50 in my pocket when going out.
