Hard to answer because I actually just limit myself.

Out of each payroll check deposited into my account, I leave in the same amount all the time that I know I'll need for 2 weeks, and spread it throughout those 14 days till next payday - I transfer the difference into savings.
So my checking account never has much in it because I'm still in school, eat at home, and don't have too many responsibilities or bills yet.
Every bill I have is already auto-deducted from said checking account and I need 1 fill-up of gas every 2 weeks for the driving I do. All this is factored into what I keep in the account or transfer over! That and I always have like $50 in my pocket when going out.

While in college? Months at a time. When you don't have regular rent, utilities, and eat at the cafeteria that you paid for in advance it was easy.

Post college, about a month when I was living off kimchi, sausages and rice. My rent and utilities were due once a month.

        i also have a garden

do you not put things in the fridge?
where are you getting super-lettuce that doesn't turn brown after a week? cucumber will go soft and nasty. carrots and onions last a bit longer - celery goes limp. I like my food fresh, not weeks old..

I have a garden too. I also have a family - they eat stuff.

There is no way for me to not spend money. Even if I did things like only eating at home. I commute into SF from San Rafael every day. That's $6 for the bridge and gas. Even going to work is expensive. Living in SF would be even more costly.

I can be good about it some days, but others not so much.
I have a savings account (while I'll be reorganizing & investing this summer), that is back at home - at a bank where I cannot easily withdraw from while at school.

Down here at school, I probably use my debit card linked to a separate check account almost everyday. It blows. I hate the feeling of having to spend on it. :(

If you have a family, it's sort of impossible not to spend.

Probably like four or five years. I didn't get an allowance until I was four or so.

This! I spend more on the kids than anything. There is always something they need

I spend money every day and I'm working hard not to

I've gone about a week. Keeping track of what you spend helps.

I get like a jumbo bag of organic romain heads of lettuce and eat one a day. Also trick is to wrap them in paper towels. 2 cucumbers last me 2 weeks, 1 a week. If you dont cut it open it doesnt just get soft.
