    PNW speeding to Bimmerfest?

    May be a repost.

Were any of you guys in the pack? I'd like to have seen that kind of caravan.

With the way BMW "car cruises" go I wouldn't be surprised.

To be honest I think its good if car cruises like that get broken up. Just look at all the accidents that happen during them. 20+ BMW's driving like shitheads on the public highways during the day, usually weaving in and out of traffic at triple digits is just retarded.

Except we weren't weaving in and out of traffic, nor were we at triple-digit speeds. What happened on that drive truly was an accident. The stop sign at the bottom of that hill was nearly impossible to see, and while I don't know the exact details of how it happened, I know that it wasn't entirely his fault. But it's true that we could have been more careful.

But what happened is sort of typical of the "car cruise" syndrome, mainly when it's a bunch of younger drivers. It's too bad. That's one good thing about the drive at the PNW E30 meet every year, there's usually quite a few adults as well, and the drive always goes very smoothly.

I realize you guys might not have been driving in the same manner, but a caravan of cars is dangerous. People get distracted - trying to stay in a group, etc.

I just got back from FL last night. Drove straight through yesterday - 905 miles. In Georgia, we encountered a group from Illinois - obviously together - a group of about 8 SUVs and vans. They were so hung up on staying in a pack they were clogging up the road, cutting people off so they could stay in a line. All looked to be normal adult drivers, but their focus was too much on the pack than on normal defensive driving.

My wife is "caravaning" a group for a girl scouts trip this summer - going to Savannah, and then to our place so the girls can go to Disney. She made up an itinerary for the moms driving and they have scheduled stops at certain points - she emphasized to them - do not get hung up on "following the leader". Everyone has an itinerary - no one will get left behind - and everyone has a cell phone.

im suprised i didn't see anyone get pegged on the cruise after bimmerfest. i heard that they set a roadblock on 154 which was the way we were supposed to go and were towing any BMW with illegal mods.

                          it was a DUI checkpoint.

And even if they were towing away BMWs with illegal mods, it'd be like, the unlucky ten BMWs to go on their only ten tow trucks

Tom (Mot) was telling us about this when he arrived. He said a whole bunch of guys got tickets over 100 and he knew they would end up getting a ticket so he slowed down.
