Nah man, it smells like heaven. I do web design mainly. To answer Ben's question, I wouldn't say I am turning photography into a business (this gear really would not cut it in making a business out of it) but I am making money on photography.

mspiegel, from what I have read, there is very little image quality difference from the XT to most of the upper level DSLR's. The differences you pay for is size, features, better control, etc. Megapixels don't matter too much above 6, unless you are making HUGEEE prints. Some of the more expensive bodies have cool stuff like weather sealing as well. But for what it is the XT is awesome, and the battery grip helps it a lot.

Jeremy, I used my girlfriends point and shoot. FTW.

Why didn't the quote work? eh. its all the same

If prices haven't gone down i recall water tight cases being very expensive. It might be easier to make your own. I new someone in one of my photo classes who did for very very cheap and it worked all the same.

What kind of battery grip is that? And there really isn't a big difference for an amateur photographer. Some people will pay thousands of dollars more b/c they don't like how light the XT and other similar models are. Its smarter to spend most of your money on lenses in my opinion b/c if you stick to the same SLR brand throughout your life you can use the same lenses interchangeably.

I wish I had the time to learn how to use equipment like this. Nice stuff, TJ.

Looking good man, your fisheye looks like it's taken some good abuse haha. I just dropped some bills on a sigma fisheye last week, don't regret it though, new lenses are always fun.

The fisheye is mint, its just dirty and the rest you see are reflections.

Ah, one thing I'm scared of doing is scratching up the front element, I'm not used to having something so convex. ( can't put a big hood on it either or it vignettes)

How is that 80-200, you think 200mm is enough for action/ sports shots? I've been looking at 70-300's but they aren't usually very sharp over 200mm anyways, damn this lens envy.

That's awesome. I love hearing stuff like that. Being able to turn a hobby into a moneymaker is great.

My best advice is reinvest all the money you make into your gear. It really pays off. In your position, you'd be able to end up charging more and more the better you get, and you need to have the equipment to match. One thing to keep in mind is say you're shooting a car for an older gentleman who wants prints of it for his garage. Chances are it's going to be a higher end car, and the guy has money. He might be a photo buff himself. If he sees you with top of the line gear and Canon white lenses, he'll immediately think "this guy knows his shit".

Really, reinvesting is the best thing you can do. One of our clients just told us they want a shoot we're doing for them for the first two weeks of May to be fully digital (we've been shooting film & digital for them as they transition to working with digital files). Since we only have one 1DSMkII, we told them we'd have to rent another (at $1k/week, which is the rental rate for those things). After sitting down and thinking about it, I ordered a new 1DSMkII this morning from B&H -- I can charge the client 2 weeks of rental at $1k apiece, and that new 1DSMkII will only cost us $5k right from the get-go.

                    Just something to think about.

I thought 200mm would be plenty especially on a crop body but its not. Besides the 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS the rest aren't really worth it either, but even that lens is too slow for my taste. Something like the Canon 100-400 might be better suited for sports and stuff. I think it depends on where you can get and what you are shooting though.

Ben, I will definately be putting all my money back into gear. I need MORE lenses, fast primes. My constant f/2.8 zooms are good but not quite enough for indoors. I need lighting equipment (a 580EX is my next purchase probably) and a backup body as well. I am going to wait till they make a big 20D/30D replacment and buy that body, and then keep my XT as the backup probably. Maybe go full frame but I don't know yet.

Full frame is definitely the way to go.

my friend got a similar one but made for film from his brother and we took some pics in my beach house at the north of my country. Either he or me couldn't understand the damn camera....too many phtos and we opted to take each picture like 3-4 times moving some buttoms hoping to get a good one with good focus on the background and such things..some came pretty good and other not...I will try to post (scan em) here these days.
