Who's going to see Silent Hill tonight?

I fucking know I am! I've been stoked as hell about this movie since I saw the teaser trailer for it last summer. I LOVED the games, and the movie looks like it's going to be a really good adaptation. Tons of gamers and critics alike are already saying it's the best video game to movie adaptaion yet. I'm amped as hell, I can't wait until 10:05.

Never heard of the game, but read a good review for the film.

I kind of like these movies based on video games more so than comic books. Sorry for the thread hijack, but I've always thought Half Life is a game which could be made into an insane movie. A scifi, survival, alien dimension conquering, hell of a story. There are so many elements to it that could be easily exploited on the big screen. Add the feel of a speed run to it, and that would be cool.

Half Life speed run video - 45 min.

if any body cares what I think is cool...

I would love to see a Half-Life movie but they would have to make it perfect and keep true to the story for me to like it. If they made it all Hollywood like Doom then I would shoot myself.

I didn't think Doom was that bad. It wasn't great either, but I liked it.

            *Possible spoilers ahead*

I'll be the first one to say it, Silent Hill sucked. What the hell was up with the end and where were they? It obviously wasn't the same time/dimension/whatever as everybody else. How did they get there? Why were they sent there and the cop and dad weren't? SOOOO many plot holes. They didn't explain ANYTHING. I was expecting the chick to be a badass Tomb Raider/Resident Evil type, all she ever did was scream and run and back into corners. The dialogue was worse than the Star Wars prequels. Yup, it was that bad. There were pretty much only 2 lines in the whole movie "Everything will be all right" and "Burn the witch!" The story sucked, the acting sucked, the dialogue sucked, everything sucked. I wasn't expecting a good movie, but I did expect to be somewhat entertained. Some of the scenes where it gets dark and the shit peels off the wall had entertainment potential, but were cut way too short.

            STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE!!

              Sigh....

You never played any of the games, did you?

Rose and Sharon were dead. They died when they crashed their car, and the cop died when she wrecked her bike. Silent Hill (the town itself) was a perpetual limbo, a purgatory on Earth. All of the people that still "lived" in the town were dead also (from the fire, when the whole town burned), but still not completely, still being in limbo, becuase they hadn't yet paid for what they had done to Alessa. Sharon (the daughter) was nothing more than a physical manifestiation of Alessa who was adopted by Rose, all in an effort to bring someone from the land of the living back to Silent Hill, that loved her enough to follow her into the depths of the darkness and bring Alessa back to the surface of Silent Hill to bring retribution back onto those that had harmed her.

When Rose made her way down to the lower level where Alessa lived, she took the Reaper (the little girl, who acted as a sort of conduit for Alessa) into her body, and entered the church, where all the religious followers took refuge from the darkness. The Reaper was finally allowed into the church, and was able to bring Alessa up from the depths to exact her revenge on all the people in the town that had burned her. This is why Rose and Sharon were allowed to "leave", when in actuallity, they were allowed to finally die.

The scene at the end with Rose and Sharon leaving Silent Hill, coming home, and walking into the house was symbolic of them finally being allowed to rest in peace, and return "home", or to the land of the dead. That's why when they were driving home, and when they went into the house, everything was still shrouded in fog. The scene cuts back and forth between the realm of the dead and the realm of the living, where her husband was still alive (with no fog shrouding everything), and could feel them there. That's why when Christopher was walking past the front of that building with the cop in broad daylight, Sharon was shown running past it in the dark. When they passed each other, he felt her, because while they were in 2 different dimensions, they were in the same place physically.

I suppose I can appreciate the movie more now that these things are explained. I have a few more questions though. What was the deal about the sirens and all the monsters coming out? If the townspeople were still in Silent Hill because they hadnt paid for what they did, why were the mom and the cop there?

Maybe its just me but you shouldnt have that much backstory left out of the damn movie to get it. I still want to check it out, the trailer did look interesting and I usually hate these types of movies.

I'd say that the 6th Sense is a verison of this, seeing as how the first Silent Hill game for Playstation came out LONG before the 6th Sense was ever made.

The darkness and the monsters coming out were a cyclical thing, it happened at regular intervals, mainly to torment the people of Silent Hill. The siren was to alert them that the darkness was coming, and to get to the church.

As far as Rose and the cop, Rose was there because she thought that taking Sharon to Silent Hill would bring some sort of answers or closure to what was happening to her. When they wrecked the car (and died), and Sharon dissapeared, Rose set out to find her. Also because like I said before, Sharon existed solely to bring someone back with her to Silent Hill to help her set Alessa free, since she couldn't do it on her own (she couldn't enter the church), but someone innocent who didn't have anything to do with what happened to her could. The cop was there simply because she got involved, dying when she wrecked her bike while chasing them to Silent Hill. She had a history with the area anyway, going back to when she rescued the boy that someone kidnapped and dropped down a mine shaft in Silent Hill.

A Half Life movie would be pretty fucking sweet, the story is great. Half Life 2 was awesome as well. I could see it transfering well to a movie if they stuck to the story tightly.

I'm unsure about Halo because I never played the missions, I only like Halo2 Live...

the storyline of Halo is one of the best parts. Multiplayer is a lot fo fun though

as far as Silent Hill, I wasn't ever a huge fan of the game either
