My Sony Wega TV won't turn on!!!! A tube tv dying in 5 yrs?

DAMN!!!!! I've only had this tv for 5-6 years, how would it have gone out already! It won't turn on, it's clicks on and immediately clicks off and then a little red light blinks 5 or 6 times on the front panel. The fricking manual doesn't tell you what that means and Sony won't tell me either. 'F' Sony!!!! I imagine it is only a fuse or circuit. I am going to take it apart myself and have a look around. It would cost around $200 -$250 to have a tech come and look/repair it!!!!

yeah the V-chip recorder is full, they have to pull the info on your personal everyday life, re-format it and then reset it so it does another 4-6 year gathering of information on you. didnt you know?
if you dont let them do it then the terrorists win.

I just threw out a 17 year old Sony. It still worked but the picture was contracting/expanding. I got a killer wide screen 36 inch hd display model that listed for 1400 for 799.99 out the door with a five year in home warranty.

The problem (most likely) is a resistor that is dead and not allowing the transition from standby. There is nothing in there you can do yourself (unless you are a trained tv/monitor tech) except break it or injure/kill yourself. Even when unplugged there is serious voltage in there. It takes major voltage to light up the screen (I don't remember the exact number but it is 20-30k)

assuming I am right the repair won't be more than 100.00. You can always teke it in and leave it if it is more than you want to spend.

You're not the only one. We have a 5 year old 36" Panasonic flat screen that turns on intermittently. Ridiculous how we spent almost $2000 on a TV that lasts only that long.
