    Happy Earth Day

So its the official 'get-that-smug-feeling-because-I-did-something-for-the-environment' day.....a real utopia for the tree-hubbing liberals out there. In honor of this day, I am going to go meet a couple of local HPDE commrades for coffee this morning (yes I'm driving there) and then maybe a cruise down the river road for a bit and blow the cobwebs out of my catalyst. I've already watched most of F1 qualifying at San Marino this morning and I plan to watch the race tomorrow (its on CBS instead of Speed this time....check your local listings). Not a bad effort on my part....wish I could do more. Of course, anyone who is doing an auto-x or track day event this weekend is the ultimate expression of giving the finger to this day :-D

An observation: what kills me is all these Earth Day events that are being coordinated. They plan for this-or-that to happen and encourage everyone to come out and take part in the activities (this usually means hopping in your car and driving somewhere).....seems to defeat the whole purpose of Earth Day. In my neck of the woods the President is flying in via helicopter to meet with the Ahnold and tour a fuel cell development facility. This means lots of pro and anti Bush folks converging on the scene. And you guessed it, they'll all be driving there.

This is a holiday that allows greenpeace morons to actually feel like theyve done something with their life. The best is when they jump in front of container ships. Those fucktards deserve to die.

Had a guy come buy the house from the power company, let me sign up to buy my electricity from renewable power sources for a fixed 8/100ths of a cent per kilowatt. This is actually 10% more than the coal/hydro mix most of oregon gets it electricity from, but since it's fixed it could end up being less when the power company ups their regular rates. He asked, you know it's Earth Day? Not a clue, thanks for the deal on my power though. You want a lawn sign to promote your dedication to clean energy? Nope. Can we send you a newsletter about conservation? "Look man, I'm signing up for this to hedge the price risk with normal electricity, I like doing things for the environment, but you already got 10% out of me"

      He knew not to push.

                Should be fun to unwind.

I suppose you are among the people that believe global warming isn't real.

I hate the worst case scenario bullshit that says the earth is going to self implode or something in 50 years from greenhouse gases. Face it, the world goes through freeze/thaw cycles, so I think alot of global warming can be attributed to that. Im not saying it doesnt exist, but I dont buy most of the garbage out there concerning global warming.

Haha, so all the scientific evidence showing that we are the main cause of global warming is just faked? If it's not our fault then where is all the co2 coming from?

He means we, the people who can't really make a difference, aren't at fault. Even if a small group of enviornmentalists don't pollute for an entire day... someone else is for them. I honestly doubt any real steps will be taken in my lifetime to put an end to global warming. People who get worked up about this don't realize, you will live your life, you will die, and people won't take anything about the enviornment seriously until it is an emergency, it's wrong but it won't change. We should have all been living in space in the year 2000 anyways.

look the earth has it own way to stop global warming. When the ave global temp gets high enough to put enough fresh water into the north alantic to shut down the flow of warm water to europe (england mostly) form the gulf of mexico, it will trigger a massive climate shift to the colder side. So there for winters will be longer, in nothern europe an glaciers will build up faster all across the noth. Thus reflecting more solar enegry (heat) and trigger an Ice age. This is a clif note version but gives you the idea.
