Bringing someone here, likely so they can study this particular strain and attempts at treatment in a practical and well suited location, or because it's an American life.

The fact that they are American probably plays no small part in it, but...
The fact that it is an American doctor means they have much fewer variables to consider regarding the patients medical history, health, hygiene, and health risks, making it a best case candidate for analyzing the success of treatment methods, short of intentionally infecting someone to test with.

Hopefully it pays off, and the experimental treatment they are going to attempt, and the vaccine that has been in development and is poised to begin trials, succeed in preventing and caring for people facing this outbreak.

How do you pack two patients that are infected with one of the world's deadliest viruses into a pressurized aluminum tube that is filled with healthy care takers and pilots for 12 hours and not get almost everyone infected in the process? You use this old ex-Royal Danish Air Force Gulfstream III that is highly…

This surely has to be a co-inky-dink right???? Our POTUS signs an E.O. today that updates a bush one for mandatory detention of anyone with symptoms of a lethal highly communicable illness. Ebola was in it by NAME as well as many of the other biggies in the Bush era now its been replaced with this

Damn Sleeve, that does make one think.

As mentioned earlier, I'm wondering just how these 2 contracted it. Hopefully they made a mistake in protecting themselves, and the virus just hasn't found a way around the usual precautions.

I get that people want to help, but IMO, load up a big ass jet with all the medical equipment and supplies you intend to use, and take it TO the virus. Seems more logical than giving the virus a free ride to us.

Scientists at Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory hope to test an Ebola-fighting drug cocktail in humans beginning in late 2014 or early 2015.

That and a few more have showed promise. The FDA remains a hurdle for most of them. The agency has become more cautious in the last 15-20 years after quick approvals have come back to haunt them in during post-marketing surveillance. Unfortunately, the gold-standard double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials are impossible in this situation. This type of trial is also unethical in this case.

Any agent with promise should be used in conjunction with the appropriate gathering of data to determine which agents may actually work in humans. I think the hands of the regulatory agencies will be forced to allow this to occur. Sooner rather than later.
