    ActiveX controls

Alright, I have what seems to be a simple question. To start off, I am running WinXP with SP2 and all the latest Windows updates. IE6.0.2900 is my browser.

For a couple weeks now, whenever an ActiveX control is loaded on a web page, such as the music player on Myspace, it is "inactive." When I put my mouse over it, there is a big grey dotted line around the control, and I have to click on it to activate it before I can click again to manipulate it at all.

Is there any way I can disable this? I've poked around Internet Options, changed a lot of settings, and I've had 0 luck so far.

    Give this a try.

Internet Options --> Security --> custom level --> Active-X controls and plugins.

I'm afraid you're shit out of luck. Microsoft has changed the way ActiveX control work now in one of their security updates.

I just had to go and update dozens of sites because of this. It's up to the sites owners not the user to update.

Yeah I was going to have him try that before telling him he's SOL.

It's because the activeX controls are disabled now due to the latest patch that was released by MS. They lost a court battle that detailed activeX was created by another company (Eolas) and that MS had taken that technology illegally for their own. So now Eolas (company that created ActiveX) has asked that it be disabled unless user clicks to enable, each time. Unfortunatly this happening to everyone, business & personal. I know we've been putting in alot more hours than usual trying to convert everything from activeX controls and its not fun.

Is there anything specific to check or uncheck? I figure I am SOL. I had that feeling when I asked a few friends and they told me its happening to them too. It's annoying!
