I went squirrel hunting when I was 12, but we just sat in a deer stand and didn't see shit so I fell asleep. I used to kill birds with a BB gun in my cousin's neighborhood, but that is about the extent of my hunting experience.

looks like I might be home long enough the right time of year for general firearm this year, so we went out scouting a little bit yesterday and ran into a couple of bow hunters, and saw a few Muelies and couple of moose, but really nothing worthy of shooting latter.... Unless somehow I can get waffleswaffleswaffles tag for a Muleie

I went and shot my Mosin nagant and 270 win short mag Saturday. I was fun i blew up a couple pumpkins. I use the 270 for deer hunting and got that zero'd in. on the way back to the farm I had two white tails come out of the ditch and run along side my car for a good 500 yards before going into the corn field me and the deer were neck and neck at like 40 mph haha sob's are fast

really a 270 short MAG for a whitetail..... Thats a lot of powder for a whitetail. a standard 270 is more than enough, hell a 243 is a great deer gun....

^ lol I know how that goes. Shot a big buck and it was in a 6 foot ditch. Deer hunting is my favorite only thing that sucks is sitting on the cold forest floor at 6 am freezing your ass off.

I'd go hunting but I don't know when with my prof's work load he's giving us...:(

Lol see I got the 270 thinking it was just a regular ol 270 the guy at cabelas never in formed me of the short mag part I found that out myself. It's more then enough though haha leaves quite the hole in the deer. My dad uses a 243 I used to use a 243 but wanted something that would drop them a little quicker cause as any hunter would know if you hit a deer on the run they can run FOREVER I actually lost a buck once Gave up after about the 2nd mile and I tracked it through probably 2 liters of blood. My cousin uses a 30-06. He shot a buck ginormous 8 pointer with it about 4 times and my dad put about 3 243 shells in it before he dropped and I think they had to end him for good with a 9mm shell to the heart.

LOL that is why I stoped taking shots on shit while on the move. You do that where I live and you can chase a critter for miles IN very very very steep rough country and that is just further you have to pack it all back out out on your back....... You take a shot you want to know your going to be able to hit the vitals.

A 270 is not really going to drop a deer much faster than a 243, its all about shot placement and projectile design. To be fair though I am mostly a bow hunter for dear, but come elk season I have my either a 300wbymag or a 300winmag on my shoulder and will not hesitate to fill my dear tag with either of them... 1st time since 2011 I have been home for any hunting season other than spring bear, or the end of lion and wolf seasons which I was too late to put into the lottery for which is nearly impossible to get a tag for in the 1st place lol Kinda looking forward to it again, will prolly just be a long walk in the woods with a bigger gun than I normally carry, but still is a ton of fun none the less...

Lol yes where you live I would choose my shot much more. Here we got our little Forrest area where we hunt and then it opens up to corn fields and and crp grass. Deer hunting is my favorite.

Saw one flock about 100 ducks strong flying high followed by very little else the rest of the morning. Still a beautiful morning to sit and enjoy the great outdoors.

It was last week, this week we weren't as lucky. It was pretty warm yesterday and I was told that may have hurt our chances. No complaints though, I just like being outside.
