    Grand Cherokee w/ Hemi?

    Anyone?

Thinking about picking one up come tax time. Looking at the 07ish models, they have dropped in price to around 10k in good condition, which is right in my price range.

If you're looking that far back, see if you can find one of the old Merc 3.0L diesels. Otherwise they were decent SUVs but don't expect much in terms of build quality. Newer post-Fiat Chrysler products are a significant step up.

Been working my ass of and tired of beaters for the time being.....

Going to start driving the Saab on the weekdays because 30mpg, 250hp, and comfort.

Then I need something nice to keep at home and for me to take on the weekends. Both have to have baby capacity, and I'm buying a boat in a few years so towing capacity is a must.

The trooper got 13mpg... If it had more than 160 horsepower and got 20mpg, I'd still have it. I loved that truck. And the civic is already gone.

I'll just put this right here. Click consumer reviews. Looks like this is not the car for you if you're tired of beaters.

I don't know how that guy gave that thing 4 stars. 27 times the CEL came on in 3 years? I can only imagine the only other car he drove before this was a Pinto.

              Not looking at the srt-8.

Also by beater I mean rusted out and not good for more than small doses.

I can handle a broken part here and there. I'm more concerned with practicality and comfort.

how many gallons to the mile does that thing get?

does it have to be a giant SUV? I've got two kids and a dog, a 3 series wagon is more than big enough. Or something similar - I didn't love the Subaru wagon but it has to be a million times better than any Chrysler product, and it was dirt cheap with tons of space. $10k seems like a hell of a lot to me for what you're looking at..

If you are getting a WK 5.7Lnat least try to get the face lift version from 08-10 midel year better looking and slightly better quality interior and something with the suspension that feels better overall.

Here we go again. Skip the Chrysler POS (unless its a jeep for a toy)

For the same money you can find mid year model run GMT900 (2001-2006) Tahoe/Yukon with around a 100k on them with 4 wheel drive, ass warmers, leather, and all the other options. They have a better ride, better engine, better economy, better looking, better towing capabilities, easier to work on better everything. Full size SUV is the one thing GM does better than ANYONE else, other than the well known 4l60E weakness its a much better truck

Tahoe/Yukon. Far better vehicle and parts are cheap.

A big +1 on the GM SUV, it's the only thing GM does well at building. The Hemi v8 is a pile, as is most anything Chrysler touches. If you must have a Jeep, get a clean WJ (99-04) then spend the extra couple thousand getting the maintenance up to date. The WJ with a 4.0 is newest Jeep you can buy that Chrysler didn't screw up (it was a AMC- derived drivetrain)

But the Hemi has 16 spark plugs that means more power

I have an 05 Suburban and its a tough SOB I am not nearly as anal on maintenance with it as the e30 or e90 but if I had to jump in one and drive across country I would trust the Suburban 100% even though it has 2.5 times as many miles as the e90

I owner a 05 with the 4.7. The build quality was fine in my eyes, no bad gaps, zero rattles. I owned it from 35k to 98k and only did brakes once and routine oil changes. This was my high school and college vehicle so the thing took a beating, was driven hard, went through Colorado and Boise winters, and got neglected at times and the thing just kept on going. 5 of my friends have them as well (Colorado loves jeeps) 2 with the 5.7 love them especially since they are fully loaded and the others have the v6. None of them have had any major issues. Solid car from my first hand experience.
