I don't really name them but I give my project threads a somewhat relevant name. So, I guess you could call my 2.7 M20 swapped 318iS "Stroker Ace" and my gutted, lightweight 323i "Do The Ton". Generally if I'm talking about them, I just refer to them as shit heap, piece of crap, slut, etc.
I usually say "yeah I drive bmw... But it's an 85 and I bought it for $400 and towed it home. I'm fixing everything." Somehow people still want my babies.
I think it's kind of strange naming a car with a human name. It's like naming a pet with a human name.. Like calling your dog peter or jim. I just call my car what it is.. A box haha.

I give pets human names. Spot and Fluffy are pretty generic.
I guess there are just some "pet" names for pets, though this tradition of naming cars has gone on for a long time, so I started to wonder when it became a tradition, and how we chose the names. Now I guess I either wait till mine come to mind, or they are given a name
Yeah, I'm with dude about my cars not being female. When my car acts up, I fix it, and it doesn't get mad at me for it. So, clearly not female.
That said, both of my e30's are nameless dudes. I refer to them as "The vert" or "The project".
