That was most likely because you crashed not the cause of it.

Sounds like you get to break out the XP CD and run a repair install of windows.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

fun, I'll probally go ahead and reformat the harddrive and start from scratch, as when I first got the computer I had some troubles, installing the sound drivers etc... and have had to reinstall them once or twice.

That error reeks of harware drivers to me.

You could check the memory ranges and IRQs allocated to each device but it would probably be faster just to start from scratch.

Possibly your soundcard is shit for XP or the drivers are corrupted. Remove any devices you dont use and if the soundcard is a bitch the second time around try a while without it.

sounds A LOT MORE like a heat problem. Is your computer stored in a well ventilated area, or in a stupid common place like a cabinet with a door?

do us a favor and find out how hot your CPU and motherboard is running. You can do this multiple ways, but the easiest way for you, it seems, would be through the BIOS, since downloading something like sisoft sandra will probably freeze your computer lollers!

it's in a decent ventilated area, cpu runs ussualy around 42-45C, HD around 40C I don't think I've ever seen it hit above 48C.
I can download stuff just fine, just randomly while either typing and email, or opening a program, or just moving the mouse it will just shut off.

As the operating system gets a higher percentage of computers, people will start developing viruses for it. Hahaha! Good thing linux has like 1000 diffrent fragmented and unique distros so viruses will never win! And also people who use linux generally know not to download executable files from unknown sources.

                          Temperature monitor.

I've used this for a few years. It will tell you in real time, the temps of the chip, case, board, hard drives and anything else your hardware has temp senders for.
