M44 question?

    M44 question?

    So someone bought the Volvo out from under me so I decided to buy a 318ti from a friend of mine for 1k the body and interior are 10/10 seriously mint but their is very low compression on all 4 cylinders and won't start what does R3v think it is?

    My best guess is headgasket is crap from an overheat?

    Would like some other opinions
    already looked in valve train and everything seems okay maybe valve seals thought?

    Worn out rings...?

    Get a PPI and find out for sure.

      But at 122k miles seems rings are unlikely guess I just need to pull the head and look but just seems wierd

                      Just say no to M44.

                      Get a M52 and put in it. M44 is an awful little engine.

                        the M42/M44 are some of the sweetest 4 cylinder motors ever made, by anyone.
                        They rev to redline without hesitation and have enough power to be entertaining and are frugal on gas at the same time. Great motors.

                        Your problem sound like a head gasket to me. You're going to have to remove the head to see, and you should have the head checked to see if it's warped from overheating.

                          Yea he originally wanted 3k but he is closing his shop so I pounced on it I was shocked how clean the interior was!

                          But I bought a kit and bolts for the gasket and then I'm gonna hopefully get it running before my wedding on Sunday lol good present for my wife

                            The fact that it's low on all four cylinders leads me to think it was over revved or something, to cause valves to bend. I don't think I have ever seen a head gasket failure cause low compression in every cylinder......unless the head warped...?
