    Camera Questions

    Hey guys,

My digital camera died on me this winter while taking it snowboarding (figures). I'd like one for the summer. I'm really divided between those digital SLR's and the point and shoots. I really like to be active with my phototography (snowboarding, rollercoasters, ...). However, at the same time, I do like to take decent pictures where I can at least adjust the focus. I'm looking for opinions on a camera I can keep in my pocket, yet gives me some control of the outcome of my pictures. My current camera can only take about one picture every few seconds, at best. That's pretty crummy for action shots. I know the SLR's take pics as quick as you can snap the shutter release. So if you have any advice or opinions, that would be great. Oh, a durable camera would be nice.

    Thanks

There is no digital SLR that will fit in your pocket, and they usually don't take more than 3-5 frames per second (which still makes a point and shoot look laughable).

Like teej said by nature an SLR is not going to be pocket sized.

I know some of the upper end slim sonys give you some shutter control but only manual focus.

The only way to make even an dSLR shoot quickly is to go all manual. For true speed its tough to beat film.
        Im now E30less.

Not entirely true. All the full-auto modes only offer one-shot, but the "P" mode (full auto, but customizable) will allow burst shooting, as well as the full manual, and semi-manual modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, a-dep).

SLR's don't do video, so I think they're out of the picture. I'm probably going to go with the Canon S80, which has an overpriced underwater case option ($170!!). Looks fun though. What do ya'll use?

You didn't mention that you need video capability. I personally think its a gimmick, since the quality is so low of a camera's videos.

              I have a Canon EOS 350D.

You misinterpreted me me TJ, by quick I meant timing. Even shittly SLRs have a burst mode. Only the goods ones take a quick pic though (i.e. no delay).

Hell sony even makes most of their point n shoots with burst modes but its always a second or 2 till they set the EV, focus, and shoot.

Ah, you are talking about shutter lag then. My bad.
