'sup kyle. don't know if you ever made the connect but i know you from the "gearheads" lj community.

92 is a good score, but it's a percentile setup, so necessarily, 7 percent of the people who've taken the test did as well or better. i actually got a 98. so you are on the far-right edge of the bell-curve, but yeah, there's your first experience of your recruiter blowing smoke up your ass. i got lucky with mine, he was new at recruiting and didn't know the ropes yet so we were on more even footing than it usually goes.

keep in mind that military jobs pretty much come in two flavors- boring POG shit like commo or maintenance or supply, or stuff like infantry/scout/engineer that sounds really cool but actually sucks a lot, except for the few times you do get to shoot something or blow stuff up, which is much less frequent than you'd think. as i understand it the latter category is less prevalent in the navy- they have their SF operators in the seal teams, and they have EOD (bomb squad), and that's about all i know of.

anyway, i know a couple people who used to be nuke techs and it's a high-stress job and most of the people who used to do it are pretty bitter about the experience they had. i told the same to a friend from up in the bay area and she went for it anyway; she's either still in the school right now or very recently finished. if you want to talk to her and get some first-hand info rather than internet speculation, shoot me a PM and i'll put you in touch.

final note- definitely do not just take the first MOS your recruiter throws at you. get a list of somewhere between 5 and 10 jobs and learn everything you can about not just what the school is like, but what you could actually be doing in them.
