    Got a new toy!

Ok, not really a toy, but it IS cool! Found it today while out riding my bike. It's a juvenile Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus - Eastern Cottonmouth aka water mocassin. Yep it is poisonous. Unfortunately I don't have a pshop so you'll have to overlook the brightness. Enjoy:

That's pretty badass. What method did you use to catch it and what do you plan to do with it?

That thing looks pure evil. I wouldn't mind a poisonous snake as a pet because it'd be run to feed it mice and whatnot but I think I'd get bored with it quickly. Or freak the fuck out when I found it missing from it's glass tank.

Just a small stick to hold it's head steady and grabbed it up behind. Once you've got it there, it can't do much. Bigger ones are a bit trickier in that they have more body mass and toss it around, and if you don't have a good neck grasp there, they CAN get loose.

No plans, just showing it to the family to educate them on what they look like so they'll know which ones to avoid. My youngest is like me, she likes the wildlife, and she's prone to catching things. She needs to know what is safe and what's not. Even if NOT catching them, it's good to know what is poisonous and what is non-poisonous. I'll release it tomorrow, but thought it would be cool to take some pics of it before I let it go.

Caught a small adult a few years ago, and traded it to a buddy of mine for a Burmese python that was absolutely gorgeous. She was getting to be about 6ft so I had to sell her as the wife hates the snakes. But, my buddy kept the cottonmouth and about a week later it died. Turns out they excrete a lot of ammonia in their waste and he didn't have the cage properly ventilated, so it died from the ammonia buildup.

I think snakes are the most naturally evil and pissed off looking animals on Earth. That, and all those fucked-up deep water pilot fish-things.

                  Somebody's gonna die tomorrow.
That's right. One of you is marked for death.
                  And first thing tomorrow morning,
a chosen one will experience nature's wrath
                  in all its fury.
                  (Hums gloomy religious chant)
                  Who are you?
                  I'm Beth.
Are you here for the feeding?
                  Excuse me?
You're early. It's not till tomorrow.
                  You should come back.
                  It's gonna be a bloodbath.
                  I think I'll pass.

(I've never met a snake owner that didn't need to go see a shrink...)

Yeah, until you go to get in the car, can't find the thing, and scare it.
