What do you guys think about electric racing?

Fastest motorcycle at Pikes Peak this year was an Electric bike.

However, there seems to be a lack of shifting in most electric vehicles due to the massive torque. While this is certainly faster, shifting is something that is really intrinsically important for me. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishing a perfect sequence of shifts.

Whirrrrrr and gear whine with no ICE noise though short non muffled exhaust, = BAD very very BAD

to me its a like going to the tractor pulls I go for the noise more than anything, I mean whats a supper mod or Unlimited pulling tractor with out 10l Diesel on 125lbs of boost shooting a plume of soot 40 feet in the in the air on spool up, or a unlimited with out 4 502cid big block chevy's running on alky of meth, and blown with about 40lbs of boost making 1500-2000hp each, with blue flame shooting 8 feet out of all the header pipes that are only 2 feet long

Racing is very important from a technology R&D point of view, but at the end of the day it's entertainment; that's what pays the bills. It needs to be a spectacle for people to want to watch. Electric cars may be fast and responsive--more and more as the technology improves--but they'll never have much spectacle from what I can see. Just ask Formula 1 how important sound is to the experience, then remember that even those engines made a lot more noise than electric ones.

I like the concept and hope it helps move technology along. I am curious as to why Elon Musk does not own a FE team. Seems like a great place to showcase his wares.


If all goes as planned there should be three E30's rolling down to Miami together.

Myself, my son and my buddy. We just purchased GA tickets could not justify spending more when I am not even sure we are going to like it.

We attended the F1 Race in Montreal in 2011 (and got soaked) so I am excited to see how this stacks up.

I tend to look at how the RC world has gone as an indicator of things to come.

For a long time, Nitro cars ruled.

Then lipo batteries and brushless motors came around.

Now, Nitro cars are slow, and by a much larger margin than electric cars were when Nitro's were king. Follow?

As soon as battery technology catches up on the larger scale, gasoline racing will slowly die out.
