What do you guys think about electric racing?

Being as there are some Ex-Military in this thread, think of the ramifications if electric cars took over.

Suddenly the M.E. would be irrelevant, it would be the next Africa, no one would care about them.

My motivation, especially in light of the current current events, is that Electric Car tech will make these exploding gasoline monsters relics. Some of us old fekkers will keep driving them because we like the noise the explosions make, but many will embrace the new technology.

Think of your grandparents with new electronics, that is how many in this thread look.

Electric Cars are coming, the battery tech is moving forward very fast, I know a guy on a Porsche BB who has a family member working on some Battery that is going to turn the industry on its ear once they perfect it (seems there are some cooling issues) once they figure it out, batteries are going to be the way to go.

I for one, for reasons stated initially, am all for it.

right I am aware of this, but the experience that is motor sport is a much auditory as it visual. This requires some ( A LOT) DB that projects more than a dozen feet form the motors.... Seeing cars go by the flag stand going whirrrr sounding like the hard dive on lap top booting up will not cut it. Compared to 30+ 500+ HP ICE thundering by that shake the very earth they tread upon. I will take the latter please as thats the main reason to go to any kind of motor sports event, that and watching the skill on display when a missed shift can mean victory or defeat which is something massive on demand instant torque electric motors are going to effectively eliminate a lot of

Being a former military guy, one would think you would know how loud a turbine is. Me thinks there is a huge DB difference between the enviro-douch sports car and something actually powered by a turbine, especially form the outside, where there is not that much nose more than few feet from the motors. Hell even model cars and planes with very small turbine power plants make more noise than a fucking Tesla or Fisker..... Yes eletric motors make noise when under heavy load, but its nothing compared to hydrocarbons that have been set on fire in a confined environment ;)

Have you guys ever ridden in a Tesla? They're not silent. Under load they make a sound like a turbine.

Considering how fast electric cars are evolving, it'll probably be more like "we were able to save him, but he won't be able to use his arms, legs, kidneys, or penis ever again, so we basically grafted his head onto a T800"

The reduced noise of e-race cars might actually end up being the savior of race tracks suffering from urban encroachment. In my city there are already two tracks having to impose noise restrictions due to community complaints (yup, it's lame when people move next to something noisy and then complain, but that's life I guess). Would rather keep facilities open with quiet race cars, than see tracks closed and turned into houses that all look the same.

Electric cars may eventually be faster and more efficient, but they will always be fucking BORING, especially to watch. No excitement in going to the races just to watch the cars silently go by with a 'whoosh'.

I think electric its just to quiet, to here a car go by making a swish noise just doesn't do it for me. Or am i just old fashion.I know I know technology and everything But.... A car could look totally bitch but no sound,come on please it's gotta rumble and sound like a symphony when it peaking out at high rpm's going by.

Fastest motorcycle at Pikes Peak this year was an Electric bike.

However, there seems to be a lack of shifting in most electric vehicles due to the massive torque. While this is certainly faster, shifting is something that is really intrinsically important for me. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishing a perfect sequence of shifts.

To be honest, though, it's impossible to miss a shift in almost all modern race cars anyway. Shifting is more of a formality at this point.
