lots what are you guys looking to do? If you are wanting to go out, I'd say maybe gaslamp or PB. I also like Mission Beach as well as Hillcrest in the basic metro area. We lived in north county, so spent a lot more time up there, but if you are in the city you really arent missing much by not trekking out. That said, the Stone brewery, while a haul from downtown, is pretty cool to go for dinner. There is legoland near carlsbad which I've heard is also kind of cool (never went myself) though sort of spendy at around $40/person when I lived nearby. Obviously there are all the museums at Balboa, and the zoo as well. Downtown you have an aircraft carrier museum, coronado which is cool plus the hotel del out there which is a great place to catch the sunset with drink in hand. Infinite good restaurants in a 40 mile radius of dead center downtown. If you want to drive, you can check out Julian which is definitely a chick day kind of thing with a lot of trinket stores and a pretty decent pie place down the road. There are a million bars, many of which are worthwhile, so that would more boil down to where you want to hang out. If you are hipsters, there is a botique kind of popsicle place in hillcrest. Most of this info is dated by a few years since I moved away in 2011, but I'd bet a lot of it still holds true. Oh yeah, La Jolla if you want to go a little more upscale with your day/evening, and especially if your wife has fancy shopping tastes.

I once stayed at the Hilton in Torrey Pines for 5 days with my then gf.

        We left the room twice.

Overall I'd say it was a good trip. What a great city.

A lot of good stuffs, I'll let my wife decide since this is supposedly for her. I'll give the aircraft museum a visit for sure. Thanks

We still shopping for hotels at the moment and Hilton does look pretty good too. I would hate to be indoor for five days though. I'm most excited about the drive down hwy 1 that's for sure.

Go down to Sunset Cliffs. On your way down there stop at one of the local taco shops and get yourself a California burrito. Get a bunch of their hot sauce to go with the burrito. Go find a bench or a spot to sit on the cliffs and enjoy your burrito.

Another thing that I like to do is hike around Torrey Pines. Park at the bottom and walk up to the top and then find the beach trail. Hike down to the beach and walk down the beach back to your car. Oh, and when you're driving to Torrey Pines, make sure to stop at one of the local taco shops and get yourself a California burrito. Get a bunch of their hot sauce to go with the burrito. Find a good spot to sit on the trail and enjoy your burrito. There is a little rock formation on one of the trails -- I forget what it is called, but stop there, enjoy your burrito and take it all in.

Another thing you could do is stop by one of the local taco shops and just get a burrito and eat it.

I'll look into that. A good burrito is always a plus for me.

There's a lot to do. I'd recommend Torrey Pines State Reserve.
My girlie and I were there hiking on Sunday! It was beautiful.

Blacks Beach, Scripps Pier, La Jolla Shores Beach, Cardiff.

Mission beach, PB, are also coo.

Downtown SD is meh, pretty mediocre if you ask me. But I'm from San Francisco.

I'm actually gonna miss San Diego when I move away in June :(

You're a real butt for moving. I hope you hate it in Chicago and you move back immediately.

You got to realize 20 years ago, downtown san diego was only businesses, homeless people and porno theaters. It's getting there ;)

If you like hiking, Iron mountain.
