the rattling might not be from the trunk lid itself as that thing is pretty solid. its most likely coming from vents that are behind the bumper surrounds in the lower regions of the sides of the trunk (near the battery and where the jack is kept) they have little rubber flaps that go over them and they like to buzz alot, most people say to just shoot some foam up in them. dont know what they use or how hard it is to do i just ripped those rubber flaps off but the bumper was already off when i did that

edit: sorry if that doesnt help or is confusing im exhausted, and im goin to sleep

    welcome to r3v

What he said, the rattling most likely has very little to do with the trunklid itself, probably shit around it.

BTW, a good cut & polish will do wonders for your car. Whoever does it, just find a way to get it done, the difference is incredible. I fell in love with my car all over again when I got it back.

Shocks are easy as hell to install, you and a friend could do them in less than an hour. Seriously, not trying to sound like an ass here, but buy yourself a Bentley manual, and try to learn to do work on your car yourself. E30's are very easy to work on, and you'll save yourself a shitload of money.

I wouldn't worry about putting money into the car, and being afraid it's not going to last. The M20 is a pretty hardcore engine with a bombproof block, and will go well over 300k miles if properly maintained. When it does finally give up the ghost, a new (replacement) one can be had for not a lot of money, and easily swapped in in a weekend.
The problem with me and a friend doing it, is that all my friends drive S10's or Civics. They get confused looking at my car and then call it German like it's a bad thing. I would love to learn to do it but I am loathe to try anything without someone there who does know what they're doing...and there is a considerable lack of such people here. So I have had a mechanic doing most things so far.

RD = Racing Dynamics, am I correct? If so that's the one I've been looking at...and I have seen side skirts, just not often, and not nice ones...they usually have some ugly detail right in the middle of them that makes them look ricey. I am still looking so if anyone knows of any nice simple ones, let me know!

I didn't know shit about these cars when I got my first one. But at this point, in 5 years of E30 ownership, I've parted 4 E30's down to the bare frame, pulled 3 engines and swapped in 2, replaced major suspension components, and shit, [sarcasm]even learned to change my oil.[/sarcasm]

It's not as easy if you don't have friends to help, but try to find other E30 owners around you that can help, they're always willing to lend a hand.

Side skirts are kind of a hard item to find for this car. There were lots of great ones, but most of them live in the Fatherland, and will cost you and arm and a leg to buy, much less get shipped over here. The RD rear apron is a good choice for the rear, if you can find one for a decent price.

Thanks :) Your car is gorgeous btw...can't wait to get mine waxed, I have a feeling it will come up a LOT nicer after...and it's not so bad as it is...

About the rubber bumper thingers rattling, that makes sense...but I think the trunk lid does rattle as well, because if two people stand on either side of the car and push down on the top of the lid at the edges, it doesn't rattle anymore. But there are some other unidentified rattles in the back end area of the car and that rubber thing would explain one of them! I will try and figure out how to fix that.

Thanks so much everybody, you're all so helpful! :D

Sorry to whore my car out...and if you're wondering what that little light is, that is the city light, found on all euro headlights for E30's, including smoked ones.

And if you haven't already visited the FAQ section, that is a DEFINITE help. There's plenty of stuff you can learn about E30's there.

I have issues with learning motor things. I can't seem to retain anything I pick up...plus mechanics and people who DO know don't seem to want to explain it properly to me because they assume I won't get it, because I am a girl. Maybe I won't get it, but they could at least try me. The other problem is there are seriously no more than 4 nicely kept e30's in this town. I see them VERY rarely so I doubt I could make friends with the owners. The rest of the e30s are rust buckets, which makes me really sad.

Also I just ran out and looked at my shocks...they are the tubey looking thing next to the springs right? Well the back ones ARE yellow, so I am assuming they are Bilsteins since the guy that had the car before me was into the best of things...and I can't see anything on the front because it's too low and the brake thinger takes up the entire wheel just about. Well I think it's the brake thinger.

I am hopeless Oh well I'll learn!

This 'city light' ...is that like a daytime running light?

They look really nice, I was thinking the smoked ones would look good on my car since it is dark grey.

I have been looking through the FAQ section...haven't seen alot that applies to what I want to do to my car directly yet but I'm sure there's lots there!

                  Thanks:)

The city light comes on when you pull your light switch towards you once. It usually also brings up the indicator lights located on the bumper, but I did some easy work to keep them off. I like the look a little better.

Theres always stuff to learn about E30's. Hah, I've been in it three years and I STILL am learning stuff...

I am internet retarded!! It takes time for me to catch on to these things:p I will head over there and sign up :) But I'm pretty sure none of you are local to me...I'm on Vancouver Island, in Victoria:roll:

Also hey everybody I'm learning :D I found a bumpers thread in the FAQ section and read it....but I think it told me exactly what I dont want to hear, which is that what I want to do is only possible if i want to spend a ton of money. So now i have to decide how badly I want it. hmmmm.

I also read a thread about headlights and got horribly confused. I am gonna leave that one to the mechanics.
