I'm "Operations Coordinator" at a small manufacturer of blowoff valves, wastegates and turbo system accessories. Previously I worked at a couple BMW specialty shops (how I ended up with an E30), a Corvette restoration parts manufacturer/retailer, and spent the last half of the '90s installing car audio/security. Also spent a little time in the A/V world, TV station master control, media duplication, club/rave DJ, random shit.

I am in desperate need of a more lucrative and/or fulfilling career, no clue what to do at my age, college seems out of reach. *shrug*

Research tech working on genotyping DNA samples. First job after graduating with a BS in biology. Definitely just a step to move up, couldn't imagine staying here for awhile.

Training as an air traffic controller at Pearson airport in Toronto. I keep planes from crashing into each other. :)

Completely unrelated to my university education (international relations) and any job I ever had in the past, but fascinating and very fast-paced job.

If there's anything I can say, it's to keep your eyes open to any opportunity that you can find, as far away from your current field as it may seem. I started a career working for the CRA (Canadian IRS), and never thought I'd be much more than a public sector desk monkey, but one day my gf told me they were hiring controllers at the airport, so I thought, "why the hell not". That was in fall of 2012, so here I am.

One thing though, is that controllers in the USA are treated like garbage, unlike anywhere else in the world. They work 6 days/week for low 6 figures, no good benefits. Compare it to Spain, for instance, where they make 300 000 euros a year to work much less traffic and 4 days/week.

At the moment just installing Glass with my pops. Once in a while I get odd jobs at Porsche shops like Magnus walker, TRE motorsports, Bodies by John Esposito. Just got an offer to get into Water & Power through a friend. He was telling me theyre training some retards that cant even use a drill or dig a hole so he's desperate from someone with basic skills. Only thing I need to do is pass the test.

Vice President of a small audio/visual event production company based near Los Angeles. Also provide cameras and technical support for feature film press junkets. Sometimes get to go to cool locations for film publicity: middle of desert in New Mexico, London, Mexico City to name a few. Often long hours: first in last out is typical. But pay is fantastic, I've earned on average 10k more each year for the past eight years. Probably topped out for the next few years though.
Got a comm degree from a state university 20 years ago and have been working in the biz ever since.

I am a Land Surveyor, I own my own company. I started out in a Vocational School studying drafting and design on NY.

I ended up an apprentice at a surveying company and 5 years later (because I was the only employee that did not smoke pot) I was a field crew coordinator then after 10 years VP of the company. There was a difference of opinion as to what I was worth between the owner and I after I successfully obtained my State License (16 hours of testing passed) so I moved on to West Palm Beach to a larger corporation (2X salary) from the mom and pop I was at.

Then after 18 months I started my own company, befriended a competitor who I worked alongside and helped as he helped me. He died suddenly from an aneurysm. I purchased his company (which I was running as a friend while he was in a coma) from the widow. I did not want it, she could not sell it, so I purchased a a huge discount. Even though I did not want it...

I ended up with a pretty big company right as the housing market exploded in the early 2000's. I went from 3 employees to 25 in 2 short years...

I hated it.. I lamented to my wife I missed the good old days when I was small and had no bullshit to deal with. Many employees = bullshit. Much drama, so high school.

Then the market crashed and I got my wish, I went down to 2 employees from 25, many left on their own as the market crashed, some had to be laid off. Which sucks!!

For the 1st time since 2009 I am running 2 crews tomorrow, I have 5 employees and they all can do everything.

So tomorrow I am excited to have enough work finally to run two crews in the field

My sum runs one crew in Old Blue (a 1995 Toyota Pickup) and I will run the other crew in a 1978 Mini Pickup.

I see all kinds of stuff, I actually love working out in the field more than being in the office, since the view varies day to day.

                              From asshole cows...

                              To big ass houses:

This was a 2 million $$ home, I shit you not, google Jupiter Island...

I planned that day so I could relax on the empty beach behind the house after I was done surveying it. I got paid a lot to survey it so I budgeted a day to do it. My wife was working with me at the time, we wore bathing suits so we could hit the beach after we were done. It was a good day.

Sometimes I need to locate pool formboards. This one was in Miami on an Island.

Sometimes the job sucks, I almost dropped from heat exhaustion taking elevations in this swamp.

                              Just in case...

Some days my view is amazing.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! -Hunter S. Thompson
