I've never purchased an engine off eBay before, but the same rules apply. A lot of stuff can happen to an engine after its been ripped out of its home. Stuff is going to be missing, not the more obvious items but the things people never think about. If I were to buy an engine off eBay, I would make sure I was going to go through it before I put it to use. If you want to just plug and play this m44, I would be extremely cautious, because chances are something will be missing or damaged. However if this engine is getting "built", as in stroker/forged internals etc. I wouldn't worry about it as much because you are going through it anyway and you expect to replace a lot of stuff. This engine is incomplete anyway, so if you're just after the head and bottom end, and feel confident in the seller, go for it. That's my ideology anyway.

Pretty sure I've bought some stuff of that seller before. They seem reputable. $1100 seems steep but it looks like it comes cleaned and well inspected and with a 2 year warranty.

I bought a m30 out of a wrecking yard off eBay from Sacramento. I think it cost me $850 shipped. The motor was in shape.

$1100? Whoa. Anything over 800 including shipping is too expensive in my opinion even with the two year warranty.

I like to buy motors out of wrecked cars. Then you know the motor was running.

Personally, $1000 is WAY too much for a m44. I'd wait till someone is parting out a car semi-locally, and go borrow a pick up truck and haul it home. $200-$400 is what I would pay depending on condition. Just ask for a compression check on all cylinders.
