    I'd go with a k series just cause the BMW thing. but honestly I'd have a hard time justifying the purchase as it's mostly for the name.

    IMHO, I'd go with the GS500. Jap reliability and simpler to maintain than the BMW
    If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

          wtf. the dude is asking specifically about K bikes and yall are derailing him into a hipster cafe bike. just no.

          get the bmw and enjoy proper engineering. syncing and cleaning carbs is for the birds. and the GS500 isnt even as nice as the CB550/650.

            Ha! As what would be a completely new rider, I don't mind spending a little more for a K bike and then something dirt cheap to learn on (and I mean lay down a time or two).

              oh, another thing i want to add. the K bikes are very tall and kinda weighty. if you're less than 5'10, you may want to consider a smaller bike to learn on. not that you cant learn and enjoy a K bike being shorter than 5'10, just sayin.

                  Pb34 has a gay hard on for hipster cafe racers, thats why he wants me to get one. I'm really at the point where I've decided to go with the K75. Just got to stop buying e30 crap so I can afford one.

                    They both also asked about beginner bikes so I answered.

                    I've seen these Suzukis 500s or 550s for cheap and I have heard pretty much only good things. The Japs make good stuff even if it is cheap, and its always been a totally different style than the Germans' stuff.

                    (edited / added) --> To clarify a bit more: I think the Suzuki 550 is a great alternative to the Honda CB550 since the CB550 prices have now gone into the $1,500 - $2,000 plus range. Sure they may not be the same / as reliable as the infamous Honda, but their prices are significantly lower which is good to get you going at least.

                    I merely suggested it would make a good cafe if he wanted since that's popular now. Shit you might even make some money off a hipster douchebag after making it into a cafe racer! Either way its a great starter bike that won't break the bank if you break it, unlike a K or R series BMW.

                    Hipster or not, at least its not slammed and in the end: to each their own.

                      I never thought cafe racers were even hipster, I think they are the best looking bike honestly, but its not really what I'm going for. Or maybe I just make fun of them because you like them, lol. A Jap bike would definitely be the smart route, but with the addition of your new bike that makes us tied with BMW's and that keeps me up at night....

                        I'm always in favor of getting a disposable Jap bike for a beginner. If your heart is set on a K75, then by all means get it. They are excellent bikes with a reputation for comfort, reliability, and great versatility. Yes, they are a bit soggy in the suspension for my taste (nothing a Wilbers makeover can't correct) and the old-tech fuel injection system can lag in response, but they are just a great bike. The K75 tends to have far more pleasing vibes than the K100 does.

                        Full disclosure: I've always wanted a blue K75S.

                          Interesting read here, I am also looking at K75 bikes ATM. I need something to ride in the city to work, as there is no parking where I work, and public transit sucks. I'm 6'1 230lbs so I'm not scared of the weight, just don't know if I will be able to avoid modding it to hell...


                          This would be my first moto. However I ride a bicycle in the city often, and had a dirt bike when i was a kid growing up in the country.
