              Actually its 89mph. There's a formula to it but you're guestimate was pretty close ;-)

                        Id be suprised as well. In all 3 of the e30's Ive owned none has had an accurate speedo.

                            I would venture to guess that they have improved upon the speed sensing device since 1983. We've made a few improvements in technology.

                              not necessarily. Last shootout I read with either the e39 540 or M5 said the speedo was "shockingly optimistic" and read something like 10-12mph higher than actual speed at top end. *shrug*
