    Prepare for a blown mind.

Out of all the technology to come around these days, for some reason I just can't wrap my head around this one. Pretty fucking awesome to watch.

Now that second video is something crazy. Engineering at its finest. I was at a genetics conference last week and seeing all the new high tech equipment for that was mind blowing too.

this is some awesome technology to be sure. i remember watching modern marvels a couple years ago. they had a little blurb on this machine.

i wonder how you determine how the tree is going to fall from inside the cab? that would really suck to have one come crashing down on the operator. i am pretty sure the cutter/boom can somewhat push a tree over using its hydraulics. i bet that can only work up to a point.

I work for the county here and we are looking at buying something similar to that as it would turn clearing right of ways into a 1-2 man job rather than the whole crew, not to mention faster.

a machine that pulls and cuts a tree in ten seconds and my windows still take twenty minutes to roll up. the engineer in me is slacking.

I guess you didn't notice how they were cutting a few trees in different areas, not clearing the forest. Many people who supply a product arent looking to clear all of their product out with no hope of future sales. Just like farmers grow to harvest, so do people in the wood industry.

My wood furniture has long outlasted all the cheap metal Chinese shit from Value city. I'd say that's less of a waste than the pollution of creating throwaway plastic and potmetal commodities. I suppose you could build a teepee, go live in the forest and be at peace with the earth... After you killed a few trees for your home, then burned a few more for heat, and finally started carrying your drinking water around in the dried bladders of dead animals you ate.

                    Common man.

This is actually a great way to harvest timber, very minimal damage to the ground layer, and very selective. And most forests in the untied states are not logged unsustainably anymore, most forests that were cut before the age of environmentalism were over planted. So some trees need to be cut to bring the forest to its natural sustainable fuel load, and you won't see huge fires and areas of huge bug loss, along with fuel control methods, a lot of people think you can let the forest go and it will take care of itself, but most forests need human interception to be brought back to original natural patterns, I've been around this my whole life, so I've seen the old production ways leaving and a new form of forestry from to bring the forest back to its pre human biome

These things are not new, they have been around for years. I think most logging crews use them actually.

The tree doesn't fall over, they grab on to it and have enough power to move the tree where ever they want it. Once it grabs on, the tree is at the machines mercy. The only reason it looks like it is falling over in the video is because the guy is moving quickly and setting them down.
