I gotta disagree with you. All it took was one good teacher to inspire me. I am where I am because of an incredible teacher, whom I still can call up any day and he will be there with sound advice.

I didn't go to college, I have no college debt, and I am well over halfway to 100k/year at 29.

That said, I did grow up in Montgomery County, MD, so that could have something to do with why I had a (mostly) good experience with public schools.

Even still, you cannot say you didn't learn a fair amount in those 12 years. Also, no way would any kid teach themselves the same amount of material on their own.

So you make $50k a year? ;)

That being said I can honestly, right hand to god say that other than math, I didn't learn a single thing in public school I didn't know already. But, I'm 10 years younger than you, and don't remember the world before dial-up. I've been using the Internet for roughly 15 years now, and I've always read books in my spare time.

Also I went to school in East Tennessee, so that could explain why our experiences were so different.

Lmfao, if you couldn't tell time before school your parents need to be jailed. And I could spell too, obviously not every word in the english language, which I still can't, but I will reiterate that I read a ton of books outside of school, and I started reading befote school. Which is where most of my spelling/vocabulary came from.

Well you're kinda proving my point by saying academics were the lowest common denominator. The whole reason we are SUPPOSED to be in school is for the academics. I played sports, and made friends, but I didn't need school for either of things. I don't think we should abandon all hope for ever educating our children, I just think public school is probably the least effecient model available.
