Safety tip of the day - Brake clean + eyes is bad

Yeah, so I was the lucky one who had the bad day at work today. Damn brake clean man, we have a 55 gallon drum of it, and a siphon pump thing for it. To despense it, we have these things called "SureShots" theyre basically cans that you put the stuff into and pressurize it with a compressor. They hold 32oz, and it should be measured (imo) by the squirt bottle bottoms that we use as the intermediate between the drum and the sure shot bc the spout is too big to fit directly into the sureshot fill hole. Doing that, i always end up without any liquid left in the bottle, and I THOUGHT thats what the rest of my coworkers did. Of course I have the staple retarded one that fills the bottles up, fills the sureshot, and repeats and apparently leaves the remainder in the bottle. Not only is it not a great idea, its going to be a waste anyway and evaporate!

Yeah, I'll probably get flamed for being stupid but I had no reason to think that this would happen. So, I go over to refill, and pick up the bottle unknowing that anything is in it (why would there be?) it jolts and spashes out all over the left side of my face and soaks my left eye. Strike 1. That shit BURNS for like 15 minutes, continually washing my eye out. Strike 2 is when I go back when eye #1 is close to normal and I pull up on the pump for it to come out into the bottle. Fills up a little, so I push it down and pull it up again. Usually it doesnt start pumping till i pull it up a good foot or so, well it pumped almost immediately way before I was expecting it so I was pulling fast and it shoots more into the bottle, fills it, it alll comes out the top spraying everywhere and guess what? Me being in a rush got it all over the RIGHT side of my face that time. Repeat cleaning process on both eyes....What a way to end the day at 4:30...

Yeah, be more careful, but wtf man. Use safety glasses or something if spraying from a can within a close vicinity of your face too. Ive done that one once or twice. /Rant

Tomorrow Im gonna be doing a big program at work, an arrive and drive race. I could probably pinch it after work though. I'll talk to you later about it, I may be able to make it down after work, but it would be more of an evening/night thing again if I can. I gotta get ready to go somewhere but we can figure it out later :)

Eyes are okay now, they were cherry red for a good half hour after they stopped burning though. Right now they're just kinda dry and tight around my eyes on the skin, like it just pulled away all the moisture.

I got a small drop of brake fluid in my eye when I was doing my tranny swap - I've never felt such pain before!

aircraft paint stripper is no joyride either.

There's a reason I now wear safety glasses for just about every activity except skroggin.

I've heard of the toxicity of aircraft stripper..... So I've always used it with safety glasses when using it on on large areas or underneath things. I did splash it on my face one time, that wasn't fun.

I think the worst for me has always been welding slags flying down the pants or in the shoes... Or sizzling in the ears.

Just last week, I spilled basecoat on my cotton shirt while cleaning my the gun for clear. Like a fool, I used some of the lacquer thinner I was cleaning the gun with to clean my shirt and it give myself a nice burning rash for a few minutes. duh...
