new Top Gear, what does r3v think

I havent seen it yet, but from my experience in watching the Daily Show go from John Stewart to Trevor Noah it takes a little time. The biggest thing Trevor Noah did was to change a few elements to make it his show rather than him in Johns show. It made a big difference, hopefully TG will follow suit and allow some changes to the format to make it better suited to the new hosts.

Don't forget, the Daily Show was hosted by Craig Kilborn first.. John Stewart changed up the format when he came in as well.

But that's how it should be, every host put their own stamp on the show.

I guess the best example, The Tonight Show. It had several hosts over the years and each one had their own way of doing it.

Unfortunately, they are trying to pull a Doctor Who with the show.

Watched the whole episode because my cats wouldn't get off me to let me turn it off. Terrible, the producers weighted everything toward the heavily scripted segments that I always thought were the weakest part of TG. Plus, any collaboration with the military makes me sick.

As a first episode its not bad.

6.5-7/10 after accounting for realistic expectations.

They need time to smooth things out. They are obviously uncomfortable with the big shoes they are filling (and try to make up for it by being LOUDER). I will give them a couple episodes to make their own "shoes".

I do not think the voice is too grating, but the movements, facial expressions and overall mannerism does annoy me slightly. But you could say the same thing about Clarkson hair, gangling appearance, or over the top acting. In any case, it's not enough to deter me from watching the show.

That's a reasonable observation. I was trying to think of a redeeming value for Evans, but I came up with zero. I'm not even sure that he knows much about cars.

He's rich, so he has some really expensive cars. Old TG May borrowed his Ferrari California, but the guy has them in basically a museum. While it's pretentious to say he's not a real car guy, I don't think he is. /mycompletelybiasedopinion

America's Chris Evans would be a better host for Top Gear than UK's Chris Evans. I just don't like him. I haven't watched it yet though but I'm hearing he's boring on the show.

I heard that too. Am I the only one who thinks Harris should be main guy? He's been reviewing cars longer than the others and he's enjoyable to listen to. He has an opinion. Leblanc and Sabine "behind" him as support. Then the other 2? behind them? Dropping Evans completely. And no need to spread over 2 shows. To be different I get it, no 3 people are going to have the charisma of the previous tripod, but 4/5 without Evans I think would be a better show.

I'll wait a year for the new season to be released onto Netflix. I am however looking forward to The Grand Tour with my amazon subscription.

Rory, yeah that guy. They have another person too though right? Eddie Jordan? Don't know much about him.

She wouldn't need to be in every episode, but I enjoyed her on the TG episodes of previous years. Pair her and the Stig together often could be entertaining.
