It shouldnt be about how much it costs to get your liscense. It should be whether or not you can pass intensive tests/training.

        $0.02
There's always a way around for the people who would not be able to afford the expensive licensing. Like some kind of waiver they could sign up for. Just like community college, where you fill in your home's total income and such and if you qualify, then they would waive a large percentage of the fee.

My a4 has something like that on it. I've never been crazy enough to test it out though......:D

Nicest thing my dad ever did for me was when I was 16 and had just gotten my license. He said "great-you now have a license to learn how to really drive" and proceeded to send me to Bondurant for a weekend. I can't add up how much money in bent metal and broken bones it has saved me over 25 years of driving. Still never had a wreck on the street...

Try a DUI in Deutschland and see what happens. They take driving seriously. It's a priviledge, not a right.

Honestly, there should be a special class you have to attend just to buy a truck or SUV-they aren't cars and can't do basic accident avoidance maneuvers like cars would be able to do.

Who gets to decide this shit? No vote, no due process, just a decision from some bean counter?

My kid's learning to drive in a beetle.

Did you actually read the press release?

"NHTSA Administrator Nicole Nason has said the agency will mandate the equipment, estimating it would save 10,600 lives when fully implemented into the fleet."

                  So?

I'm sure requiring all of us to wear helmets all the time would save atleast 15 or 20 lives a year... maybe we should think about that?

Why would you suggest something so obviously impractical?

I would strongly encourage you to research the safety benefits of ESC before discounting the rationale for mandating it. The reduction in fatalities expected by this decesion is anticipated to surpass that achieved with airbags.
