BTW - If you ever visit California, take a train trip up the coast.

If you travel from LA to SF on the train, you'll be one of the few people ever to see first hand the missile silos that adorn the coast of California. I've done it four or five times now.

Not only do you get access to see a working silo, you get too see the infamous "slick six" launch pad, Back in the 90's the CIA was reported to have built their own space shuttle. I'll let you fill in the details,

The A12 was the first blackbird built, and was slightly faster than the Sr71 which replaced it, and had the ability to take slightly higher quality photos.

The SR71 was chosen as it's successor due to its side looking radars and cameras, which the A12 didn't have.

Looking at this these pics, (A12 first, then an SR71B) you can see the slight differences:
