You could say the same for guys in dragsters that basically sit right next to, in front of, on top of or directly behind the entire drive-train. They mitigate the risk with a shield. The car in the original picture is obviously unfinished.

If the builder is brilliant enough to relocate the turbo there to double as a cabin heater, what makes you think he doesn't plan on implementing a cup holder that doubles as a turbo shield or something along those lines?
