    Shipping a trunklid

    Hey guys,
I have a guy that is in PA that has a MINT zinno trunklid. Well we obviously don't want it to get damaged but he really doesn't know how to pack it good so it doesn't get to me totalled. He is using UPS to ship. Anyone have any idea? Really the only option that we can see is for UPS to ship/package but won't that be a shit ton of money?

    Thanks
    DJ

wrap it in a towel first, or a couple, so it doesn't get scratched, then just use whatever for padding, and put it in a box, done and done. it's really solid enough on it's own it shouldn't be to easily damaged other than paint, but the towel will solve that.

Best thing to do when shipping body panels? Go to any or all of your local auto body shops, and ask them if they have the boxes from any trunklids that they may have gotten in recently. At least one shop is bound to have one. A box for just about any trunklid should work, and then just head out to a packing store or maybe even a local recycling center, and get as much bubble wrap or foam blocks as you can. Wrap it up snug and securely, and you should be set!

Do you think if he also includes a fragile sticker on it that UPS people would actually pay attention?

Yes and no. You can mark something fragile all you want, but the fact of the matter is that once it gets to the sort areas at god knows how many different shipping hubs, that thing is going to be thrown around like luggage at an airport. If he's really worried about damage (on a trunklid, not worth worrying about), the best thing to do is just get enough insurance.

Well he told me that you can only get insurance on a object that was packaged by them. True?

Best thing you can do is not ship UPS :)

I dont know about you guys, but 90% of the time I get a box from UPS its all smashed up. I ordered a $1500 harnom kardon reciver once, UPS threw a javelin or something though it. I saw 2 holes one on each side of the box, I open it up, and theres 2 holes through my reciver... LCD was all busted in an what not...

              FedEx or DHL FTW

Agree with that - avoid UPS.

Yea, UPS sucks. I was in the parking lot with a friend when I saw two of the trucks back up so that they could transfer packages from one truck to another. The thing was sometimes they would miss the catch on purpose and laugh...I should have asked for his name.

You can insure any package no matter who built the box.

i insured it and they are denying the claim "Insufficient packaging", even thoughi put the front bumper inside the rear and both got crushed, then wrapped both in about 3 layers or carboard, then boxed them. (ran over my guess) My argument is that even with the carboard, nothing could have saved it fro the damage they dealt to my poor beautiful euro bumpers, as it takes a sufficient amount of force to crush a bumper flat, especially TWO inside of each other. Fuckin ups.
