Dude Japan has been biting German shit forever and its known, even expected. It shouldnt be much of a surprise. The Hoffmeister Kink was a surprise, though.

I agree with him though.... why the hell bother driving if a machine is going to do everything for you? Leaving your work in the hands of a machine will cause you to slack off even more behind the wheel.

Oh I know, or else they would never manufacture it in the first place. It doesnt change the fact that I think that the buyers are fucking idiots tho.

true true. I was just making a point that the target buyer has moved from enthusiast, to rich waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles.

I'll be perfectly honest, I love my e30, but when I wanted a nice daily driver instead of a 10mpg Jeep, I got an e46 automatic, leather, etc. If the e46 didn't ride as smooth as it did, I would have ended up going Lexus or another brand. My e30 is a blast, don't get me wrong, but I can definately reason with wanting a very comfortable daily car, with auto everything and such.

I also do landscaping for a living, hence after work I usually enjoy getting into a comfortable car, turning on the heated seats, throwing it in drive, and letting the car do everything else. At that point I am tired, and sore, and want luxury, period. Not arguing, but I can def. see reasoning for cars getting more automated.

I still think the new 3's are ugly. The sedans I like, but I hate the new coupes. Unfortunately, after my e46, BMW might loose me for daily cars if they keep producing what they have been.

I don't really see the big deal about the autoparking thing. VW had an autopark prototype Beetle in the early 80s. It's nothing new, and it's been on the Prius in Japan for a couple of years. Toyota probably figured that the only market for something like that in the US was the luxury market, and stuck it in the new LS. And from what I've seen, it's a bitch to program the thing to park--most people probably won't even bother to use it. I know I wouldn't.

^ The difficulty is in the video I posted in the 2nd page. Seems to have gone completely unnoticed. Anyhow, if people were not going to use it, Lexus would not have made it in the first place.

Taking the responsability from the driver's hands isnt only something Lexus is going. Mercedes has their speed matching cruise control, and other companies are going for the same thing. You cant blame them as they are businesses and they just want to make money.

What annoys me is that I believe that functions like auto-park and cruise control take part of the driver's attention when it comes to road driving, so in the case of him needing to act quickly, chances are it wouldnt happen.

These computers arent perfect, if you've seen Mercedes demo of their cruise control to the media you would know how badly that S class got totalled when it was supposed to make a perfect stop. Now we look at the Lexus and all the complications. This maybe something that's not so important as I'm sure with time automotive companies will make these options almost completely fool proof. But whatever...

I still disagree with promoting removing the driver's responsabilities behind the wheel. Someone mentioned that after work they are tired and they want luxury. Last thing I want to see is some driver who is tired and depends on their ECU for 1/2 of the driving.

                      But again, that's just me.

Being tired and wanting to just lean back and use two pedals and relax is a lot different than letting the car drive for you. Around here, anyways, everyone multitasks while driving, such as coffee, smoking, yes, even reading, and especially talking on the cell phone. And yes, those are a few reasons I went with an auto this time.

The self park thing I could care less about. Just not me. And I typically don't use cruise control at all, and I don't trust and ecu to determine a safe distance. I still think I am safer on my cellphone, driving my auto e46 than the soccerr mom in front of me in a Yukon that dpends on the parking sensors to move the thing around.

Get over it. Im looking at an automatic because in an urban setting it can be damn annoying having to shift, especially if you are carting clients or family around.
                              Im now E30less.

Agreed, however that is a valid reason for an automatic. Not like what's been said before.
