i could keep going on that list.
for all the ppl who buy a base model car with 0 options dont expected to be like your buddies top of the line car. your xa will never ride like a avalon.

oh and dont get me started on ppl who "read the internet" for problems with your car. most of the time ppl think because they read something, its either applys to there car or its happening most of the time its not.

oh and for the ppl that think we can fix a problem with there mpg, because last time the had 345miles when they filled up and now they have 340miles there has to be a problem. well check you driving, we can't wave a magic wand to fined out whats wrong with your car.

oh and the ppl who want us to drive with them for 45mins, just to listen to their car that only makes a clicking noise when they get out of there driveways in the mornings. we are not going to sleep out side your house to get in the morning to hear the noise. think about it.

oh and the retard that complains about a swishing noise from under there set. why would you not clean your car and find teh half empty bottle of water under your seat?

oh and the one tht kicks me in the balls is when im at lunch and getting some food quick and some one ask me if i can diag. a problem by listing to them. think about it i most like not paying attention to you im eating i careless about your problem your not paying me ever think i want to be left alone?

well this is my rant, this all happen yesterday and so this is all fresh in my mind.

yes, but we are all crooked bastards that are out to screw you over, and "fake fix" your car so you can bring it back for the same prob over and over. never mind that we have to spend 3x + the money that your car cost new, on tools and never get to stop buying tools (going to get a $4000 scan tool next week), so we car bust our asses to fix car as fast as we can to beat a sometimes shrinking flat rate (for those who don't know flat rate, you get paid "x" dollars to do a repair in the form of "x" dollars per hour @ a certain time. if you get iot done faster you make $ if it takes you longer you loose $). just for that we should fix everyone's cars outside of work for free and give out diag. knowledge out for free.

Nice rant - good to hear from the guy who fixes most peoples cars. I guess guys like us that take pride in our stuff and keep it clean might also be willing to do our own motorwork. So they never really deal with the kind of people thay want to deal with - just those listed in the rant.

Plus, mechanics rarely ever get happy customers.

What I mean is that customers aren't there to get a cool new stereo, but need to spend money to deal with some hassle...like a dead alternator or whatever.

I never wanna turn wrenches for a living again.

its not really all bad its just that 9 out of 10 times most customers come in for straight warranty work. there car might be out and when you tell them that they blame it on you. or if they come in with a 1992 shit box truck and come in for a recall that is open. when you try to do it most of the shit is rusted or locked up ,and you give them a estimate on how much it would cost them and they say no and want just the free stuff. then they leave come back 3 days later with half there front end off saying it was your fault. or other cust. come in for there 19.99 oil change with a 100k+ on there car and when you tell them there car needs brakes or it leaks oil out of every where they blame it on you.

but at the same time its not just mechanics its doctors, nurses,electricians,ect,ect. most of the fix it buss. have been damage by stupid ppl who read the internet too much. my wifes parents are doctors. they have told me thant when they are out and about in there social circles a bunch of ppl go and start asking them about there pains or rashs. and when there in there offices ppl always thing they know whats wrong with them right off the bat.

its not just mechanics its in most industries that have to deal with ppl up front.

About two years ago I was a Service Advisor for Volvo. Your typical Volvo customer is well educated, cares about what kind of vehicle they chose and most likely will be keeping thier Volvo for a very long time. They have had Volvos before and somehow no matter how expensive they are to fix, they will keep coming back to Volvo.

So I write up a 2003-ish C70 (convertible) for a heat issue, still under warranty... I think to myself "well this chassis is essentially a Volvo 850 which first hit the streets in 94', they are generally huge peices of shit and there probably is an actual problem." My tech test drove the vehicle, heat was working great. It was a convertible so naturally there were some drafts associated with it, but nothing out of the ordinary. I called my customer, told him the vehicle was ready to pick up and that we found no problem with the heating system. He was very cooperative and we engaged in a little conversation which ended up being about how he loves his Volvo, and how well engineered it is. He said he was suprised that since the vehicle was designed and built in a country that is known for its long winters that he would be having such an issue with the heat. I paused, then politely told him, "Sir, I have a fealing they probably don't sell to many C70 convertibles in Sweden."

I have a smell but I dont know where the mold is or even it is there, I have bad seals on the sides so I take in water. My underwear is still white but that not getting rid of what I think is a musty mold smell.

I do understand though on all the other things. I know its kinda far off but I used to work at target for 3 years and some lady used the race card cause I had to get something for a customer that was there before her.

#7 to all the workers at nasa. just because you work there doesnt mean you are THE rocket scientist!! someone has to clean the shiter! and my gues would be the one driving the pontiac!!so dont be pissed because i am not purfect and didnt fix your car right the 1st time. after all, didnt the shuttle blow up 2 times?????so far!!!at least my fuck up didnt kill the whole crew!

I can understand most of it, but after working auto sales for two years prior, I came to hate most dealer service departments. When I work there, and you tell me that my Jeep needs a 70k inspection and service for $250 that consitst of not more than checking to see if stuff is good or not, I am probably not going to be happy.

Overall, I have met a few good mechanics, a lot of shitty ones, and a lot of people who have no godamn clue what they are doing. More than once I have made a mechanic put my car back together and not touch it b/c they didn;t know how to do things right.

For example, I wanted a tranny flush done on my Jeep Wrangler, mechanic gets into and says he has to drop the skid plate to do it. NO, YOU DON;T!! Its also the crossmember for the transmission and transfer case! He insisted that he knew what he was doing, and that I wasnt a mechanic, and I don't know anything about it, etc. Well, I have done it before, and thats how I know! In the end, I told him to put it back together, and then he handed me a bill for labor! I politely let him know that I'd pay him when he knew what he was doing, and until then, don't even think of me paying Jack squat for nothing.

So, I can understand some of that, however, I still don't lik most mechanics, I have had great luck with BMW Gallery Norwell, Lovering Volvo Nashua, and thats about it!

regardless of how much of a dumbass he was you can't refuse to pay him for labor that he did.

He was hired to perform a tranny flush. He didn't get past getting it on the lift and examining it for 20 minutes. Would you pay any money for that??? I wouldn't, thats for damn sure. I am a landscaping contractor. If you hire me to mow your lawn, and all I get done is unloading equipment, and gasing up, are you gonna pay me $60?? Of course not, its absurd.

There are a lot of good mechanics, and there are plenty of shitty ones. Same goes for any other service industry. That and when someone is really pissed off, they have a habit of doing irrational things, such as I did, walking out to the bay, starting the engine, and leaving. If you are going to try to charge me an additional $120 in labor for something unecessary, I am going to get pissed.
