The 2002 (Rebuilt motor with Dual valve springs, SS valves, cam and all new seals/bearings, electronic ignition, rebuilt driveshaft, new guibo and a replacement transmission.)
You're missing the point. You're spending money on toys, Josh is bitching about spending money on beaters. My toy is a beater, does that make it double suck or what?

Optima batteries are very unreliable from my experience. People bring them back all the time after like a month sometimes. The expensive parts store brand batteries are better, and you get 8 year warranties and such, with just as much power. Plus they are half the price of an Optima. Optimas are a waste IMO

These kind of "testimonials" drive me nuts. Your experience (or others) with them does not mean they are a waste of money or unreliable. I know countless people who swear by them, and I have one in my car. I've had my car for 2 years, and even when temps have hit -15 and the car hasn't been started in 2 weeks, it still fires right up after cranking MAYBE twice.

My stock Nissan battery lasted 6 years, the interstate in my e30 has been in there since I've had it, so about 4 years. A good battery will cost half of an Optima. They just seem like a waste of money, you can get two batteries for the price of an optima. The cold cranking ability you are talking about, most high end parts store batteries actually have more CCAs than the optima.

It's more than just their cranking ability, dry cell batteries are a better, more efficient design, plain and simple. I'm not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, just saying that it's not right to say something is unreliable and a waste of money just because you don't favor it. :D

A battery's reliability can be based on many factors, maybe the faulty ones I have seen were misused (overcharging, too many 80% deep cycles).

I was just saying that even if its toys...they are still my only forms of transport and sometimes I wish I only had one...and a real DD.. but that wouldnt be any fun now would it, although my eta has been dead reliable.

Sort of. I'm driving it during the winter, then my mom is going to sell it in the spring. It was my brother's.

By that measure, I know exactly what you're getting at, so spare me.

I was just going to say spending a little money on this car to keep your e30 clean if its that important, shouldn't be too bad.

Hell, I've dumped almost $1k in my 325is to get it back to roadworthy for this winter. I would have rather bought myself an OEM Evolution 3 wing, but cest'le vie. I know the M will sit inside under the cover all winter and that makes the $$ I'm spending on the 325 worth it.

                            Best,
                            Chris
