    Who is in/gone through STEP?

I am seriously considering dropping out of college and going to a tech school to get a degree in automotive jokes, then hopefully get into STEP.

Just wondering if I could talk to someone who is going into it or has gone through it, I am trying to figure out what I need to do exactly to get in.

How far are you through college? I'm finishing up college so I can get a job that subsidizes my automotive fun....

talk to "etasport", he is going into STEP at lincoln tech in MD.

Don't you have to go to UTI before getting into STEP? If so, dont' bother.

I have several friends who have all said that UTI is a big joke and they didn't learn anything they didn't already know.

Stay in college. Otherwise your literally throwing away the money you already spent on your progree towards a degree. Besides, youll make much more and more than likely be much happier in the long run.

Besides what seems like fun now most likely wont be when you have to do it 15 times a day for the rest of your life.

That's about half true, and it all depends on the type of person you are too. I've been on the same job now for 3 1/2 years. It does get boring sometimes and it is fun at other times. But it brings home a paycheck. I never did like school so i did not go to college.

finishing up the 2 years at BMW tech school in may and applying for step right now. the way i see it, working on cars is a great way to eventually work for yourself and own a business.

A college degree can get you the same opportunities. Not trying to knock STEP, but it seems stupid to just piss away money you already spent trying to get a degree.

not to hate on college, i sometimes regret never going, but 95% of the people i know that graduated from college work shitty office jobs for 35k a year. to each his own, there is potential for very good money working for BMW as a few experienced people here could attest to.

I just graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Telecommunications Management. I was seriously ready to go to an automotive school, and at the last minute decided to go for my other hobby, computers and networking. Glad I did. Cars are my number one hobby, and working on them every day would ruin it.

I used to work at a garage, and I hated working on my car after 45-50 hours of doing the same thing all week. Now, I love going to work doing WAN troubleshooting, enjoying the work im doing, and coming home and enjoying workin on my car as a change of pace.

Do you have other major interests or hobby's outside of cars that you can enjoy for the rest of your life? You may not want to over-saturate yourself with 1 thing to do for the next 50 years.

Unless he has huge med school type debt then I see no problem in following what he wants to do. Making money in any profession is possible, as long as you rock at what you do.

In case some of you don't know already... You don't pay for STEP. BMW does. You then HAVE TO work at a dealership for 1 year upon graduating. The only thing you pay for is living basically.

Keep going to college, pick up some automotive classes, then after you graduate just apply at a dealership.

                          STAY IN COLLEGE!

Working on cars in a shop everyday sucks UNLESS YOU REALLY FUCKING LOVE IT. I MEAN, REALLY, FUCKING LOVE IT.

The owning your own shop thing isn't as cracked up as most people make it sound.

Word. FYI folks, 90% of the work at a BMW dealership is oil changes, brakes, and tires. And fucking TCU repairs. On automatic 325xi's, not M5's and Z8's.
