Get a college degree. Don't limit your job opportunities so early on by not getting one. It's practically required now for a whole range of employment opportunities.San Diego BMW repair -> Jake @ www.littlecarshop.com Great guy

The only reason I wanted to get into STEP was because I can get a job right out of it. I don't plan on working for a dealership for the rest of my life but I think it would be a nice job to have for a few years until I figure out exactly what I want to do with automotive stuff.
I guess I'm not "dropping" out, I was just going to change my degree to automotive and stopping my liberal arts (which I can always resume later)
My main question would be what school do I need to goto before STEP? Do you have to go to a specific school or would a community college or something work?Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

Hmm
"Attain a minimum of a 3.2 grade point average (3.5 preferred) in technical school."
It has a list of schools "All of these schools have and continue to support STEP by actively referring students to the BMW STEP program and by providing high quality education student services."
But it doesn't say you HAVE to go to one of them...Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

You dont HAVE to go to one of them. They want you to have 2 years in the field before you go to STEP though. i.e. one year of automotive school, working on your car for several years at home, working at Jiffy Lube, etc. And thats just so they know that you are sure you want to do this for a living. They don't want you to come and drop out or something stupid when they are paying for it.

Actually this is what I ended up doing. I changed my major to Liberal Arts, I am only 6 classes away from finishing that (required ones) then for all the credits in electives which I have not done I will do all the requirements for the automotive degree. That way I end up with 2 degrees for the price of 1.5 ;)
It will take me about 2.5 more years to finish but whatever, I will have both then I can figure out what to do. In the mean time I can get experience doing Jiffy Lube or working in a small shop or whatever I feel like. FWIW My buddy wants me to go to Maryland for a summer job at Potomac German Auto (Euro salvage yard) might make a decent reference too.
Thanks for the helpRollin' with a Geistkuchen
