    Remote start FTMFW

I found a place that would install a remote start in my jetta (yes its manual)

So nice, I cant wait for it to get cold so I can use it!

$260 installed, for a scosche unit, not 2 way but it has an addon to make it 2 way.

I'm so excited! I have never had one before, but I have bitched about not having one for years, DIE MN WINTER DIE DIE DIE

Remote start in a manual? So that means you have to leave your car in neutral every time you park it, right?

I would love to have remote start, but I always leave my car in gear when I park.

      Josh, learn a new trick.

I have not run anything over in years having remote start in a manual.

What trick? Do you have to leave the car in neutral, or do you leave it in gear?

Neutral, of course. Easy to remember after pushing a Toyota truck across a parking lot once. Driving my car up a bank, or through a flower bed.

Did I mention I used to smoke a LOT of weed?

I leave mine in neutral, by habbit. I just don't trut my e-brake. A remote start would be handy to have to come out to a warm car before I go off to class.

I want remote start bad, I'm just not sure I trust my ebrake that much. Not that there's anything wrong with it, I was just always taught to leave my car in gear when I park it.

The day you leave it in gear is the day I'll laugh my ass off. There are some horror stories about remote starts in manuals. That's why the smart stores refuse to install a remote start in a manual.
I wish you good memory or good habit.

I thought I heard something that there was some kind of bypass for manuals? Not true?

One company has a system that you must basically remote start your car before leaving it, then exit the car, then shut it down by remote.

If you follow this procedure, it will start. Otherwise, no dice.

I can also make a set of switches that can lock out the start mode if the car is in gear, or if it moves.

I ALWAYS look at my car when I start it, and never start it after anyone else drives it.

BTW, Josh...I am one of the dumb shops that will do remote start on a manual...just not for dummies, or with a reciept, or any method of payment other than cash.

Andrew can do it for me, I was just wondering if you had some kind of bypass or something.

But I don't think I'm going to, anyway. We have another plan for starting my car.

                          I just don't think it's smart.;)

It rarely gets cold enough in these parts for a remote start unless your a girly girl.....and no I'm not calling anyone a girly girl....directly anyways.

This one is meant for a manual car.

What you do is, stop the car, pull the ebrake, and take out the key. The car will still run.

You have to open the door, get out (well I guess you don't HAVE to get out), close the door, then the car turns off and locks.

The only way I can see to start it is to do all that, unlock the car, put it in gear, then try and start it.

I wouldn't put one in my m3 or anything, just because the only reason I wanted one was for winter, which the m3 doesn't see.

Also, I never leave my car in gear, ever. I always just put the e-brake on with the car in neutral, every car I have done this and its never been a problem.

Sounds like a fool proof way to have it in a manual....
